For the most part essential mixes are not to be meant to be played at clubs. I mean in reality if they played the A&B mix in a club i would have been bored out my mind! But just to chill out and actually listen to it...it's more then worthy!

This is true, you're suppose to listen to how the mix was being told. Above & Beyond's ES was a story "The trouble in the world". They had samples of people talking about the state of the world. This gave meaning to what they did and why it was loved. It wasn't just DJ.

Yikes, am I just a retard or something? cuz I didnt enjoy that S&D set AT ALL and I tried very hard to figure out what was so wonderful about it. I mean, the was just sooooo insanely boring. I don't care what "progress" that these guys are supposedly making it still sounds like e to me.

I think that even if your ideas or original or new, they can still be bad. In the case of S&D's hyped renaisance set, sure they tried to sound different, but as different and unique as it was, it was still friggin boring. Say what you will about flaws in my taste for not enjoying sasha and diggersm but its not cuz I dont have an open mind about these things. I like a LOT of weird that many people cant find any beauty in so its not that I'm following a crowd of puppets or anything, but I feel like a huge ass when I say that I dont like S&D cuz ppl friggin love these guys and go crazy to hear them.

WHY? whats so wonderful and special about this sound, what part of this mix was anything special, I listened to this thing damn near a hundred times and I just couldn't find it and I'm trying really hard here. Do people jsut like moving around to that droning sound, i dunno it just seems so soulless to me, its not the repitition that annoys me(im a huge whore for repitition) just the lack of anything that isnt abstract and generic, almost like they are going out of their way not to offend anybody but in doing that they also never take that gamble of making something amazing cuz they seem afraid that ppl wont buy into it.

someone please tell me what the appeal of S&D is, you kids just look like your having so much fun out there dancing when either one of them plays but it doesnt make me move at all even though I really wanna join in and have some fun too.

And personally I thought Dekay's EM wasn't that great at all, although he did drop some kickass tracks. I actually preferred the set he did on ASOT some weeks before.

+1
Zombie0915
he had that one track on that set I really liked, that had the vocal that kinda sounded like "wickedwickedwickedwicked...." then later it went "sixsixsixsixsixsixsix..."

but aside from a few interesting sections it didnt really move me.

ps, im talking about the dekay mix now, sry im posting like a retard cuz i dont want to go to sleep yet

Although I did not vote for the A&B essential mix (voted for Dave Seaman), I still though it was absolutely brilliant. Like someone mentioned before, the THEME they developed around the mix (the troubles of the world) blended with the music was outstanding.

I love Sasha's mixing, but like Zombie0915 said in his earlier post, I could not find anything special in this mix despite listening to it a couple of times. There were a few songs in that mix, of course played by Sasha (Digweed is just too ing plain for me) that really stood out, but that's it. This was a really great live set, but an EM has to be more than that and creating a theme like A&B did was original.

An EM can't just be about technique, about great transitions or about a live crowd going nuts. It has to have an essence, a life of its own. Sort of like what DJs try to create in their CD compilations.

As for the rest of the mixes, the Infusion, Switch and the Deep Dish live from Creamfields mixes really stood out for me and deserved a better spot IMO.

Its just a tragedy. Above & Beyond? Come on.
I would problably have placed Sasha & Diggers as #1 and Sander K´s as #2, because Sander rocked it.

Sasha and Diggers EM gets better the more times you listen to it tho. Im a hardcore Digweed fan and
often thinks that Sasha plays too many tunes with too much melody so Digweed suits like the glove
(and when Diggers plays melodys its with a different feeling, not so much crowd pleasing mainstreamish)
but even i thought that it was a bit too... stale. At the beginning.

After having listened to it a couple of times it really grew on me.

I love the essential mix by Sandra Collins from august. Its one of those EMs i still listen to sometimes. I wish it would have made the list.

Damn A&B, wtf? Of course its not really my style anymore but still Sasha/Diggers and Zabiela did a much better job imo. Btw, who the hell is Bugz in the Attic? Never heard of them till I saw them on the top 10 list.
