sigh, and they wanted me to beleive I was lucky to have been born in America.
Those pictures make here look like a pile of trash.
(dont get me wrong, there are some nice places here, but they are rare exceptions)

Being from North Carolina, I don't blame you for thinking that. |

The island on "the beach" is indeed koh samui
Except for in the movie, theres an "inner beach" where a scale of cliffs covered the beach. This was done by CGI of course.
In fact the real beach is not totally covered, theres a pretty large gap, say mouthway, which heads to the main ocean.
Still its a very very beautiful island.Probably the best in south east asia. |
Get yer facts straight man :stongue:
The inner beach was filmed on an island called Koh Phi Phi and has nothing to do with the turist trap of Koh Samui (which is ok cool tho, was there for two weeks in January 2004).
Anyways I quit my job (been in the IT biz for 8 years) and am going to Australia for a year as backpacker, on a "working holiday" visa, that enables me to work all over the country as long as I don't stay in the same job for over 3 months. I am leaving for Australia in the start of April 2005, so if you end up going there tell me and we can meet up at surfers paradise (north of Brisbane) and have a beer ;) |

Meh i guess i was wrong. My bro kept on saying that samui was where the beach was filmed and the place wasnt accessible to tourists. |

Las Vegas
Cali
Miami
If you want sunny warm weather and lots of action
Dominican republic or Cuba for tropics, or if it aint too rich for your blood Hawai or the carabeans, nicest beaches on earth
if your into more mythology and discovery: Japan, China or Thailand are sure to keep you occupied...
These are my choices, and places I ant to visit before I die..in no particular order.
Places I went to:
Greece: nice weather, lots of history to discover
Florida many times: typical southern america tropical ambiance, a little quieter then Miami, cali and the likes tough..
Dominican republic: hot, humid weather, but definitly fun and relaxing, especially for a couple..
zats about it, I like summer :toothless |

you might want to look into San Diego, California if you are looking for somewhere to spend a year. The weather is beautiful year round (it was 83 degrees last week, December), the ladies are beautiful (or guys, if that is your thing, not like there is anything wrong with that) and it is not super expensive to live right near the beach.
As well, since you work for Intel, there are a lot of technology companies in the area so I bet you could find work if you wanted it.
I would be happy to answer any questions you might have about the area.
Regards,
