to me, hard is bang-bang. I mostly use the adjective "hard" to describe techno. Very little melodies or even synths, just a linear combination of bassline, percussion and high hats.

my thoughts exactly

I think it's pretty hard to describe the "hard" sound, but people know what it is. Although, often it's confused with "fast".

Anything over 130 is too hard.

i need more than just bang bang bang. and i can't dance to stuff that's too fast. wandered into the hard house tent at a festival one year and lab 4 was on, and it was just ridiculous. the only thing you can do to that is jump up and down like a jumping bean. so i stood there in fear.

Myself, i saw Lab4 LIVE for the first time at WEMF this past july, and they OWNED me so hard it wasnt funny....

they n pounded the outta my body! They are a crazy expereince in themselves! WHOLLY , still just thinking about them that night makes me sudder o.M.G>

OMG OMG

I saw Lab 4 @ WEMF and I thought they were horrible. It was just noise to me.

hard has nothing to do with speed
its all in teh bass sound. its a particular sound that doesnt just push air, it really thumps you good.
I like what skipper says..

well...i guess it depends

even the cheesyest synths can be called hard

as for the hardstyle

i refer hard mostly to techno

trance..prog or house doesnt really seems hard to me
