hardest part of making a song

what do you guys think the hardest part of making a song is?
personally, it takes me quite a while to get the effects down. Effects make a big difference between a good song to an excellent song. |

A good song can get away without having much in the way of fx, if what you're referring to is sound fx (whooshes and bells and other things of that nature). I generally just get creative with synths and white noise, usually works fine.
As for me, the hardest part of a song is to get it to sit right. The sounds I use and my style lend themselves to horribly painful mastering. I've been structurally and musically finished this one track for weeks now and I haven't let it go yet because im not quite happy with how it sits. |

| yep, definitely the mastering. i have a track now which i'm relatively content with in terms of individual sounds, but i can't get the mix right. there are always clashing elements at some points. |

don't mix up mastering with mixing. They are not the same procedure!
well anyway, for me the hardest part is getting to the stage when youre supposed to structure the whole song up. I have lots and lots of 16 bar loops with some pretty nice stuff going on but I can never get myself to start structuring up the track and giving it it's form. |

| True.. Once you get the mastering right, you know how to do it. Finding a catchy, or phat, or kinky melody is often hard. If you found one, you may not find it twice. |

| Yeah, I have problems finding a good melody/chord progression. Fx and mixing aren't my weakest point, but that damn melody... |
