I watch too much TV.
Usually: Sopranos, ER, CSI + Sports.
Week: 1 + 1 + 1 + (3hr x 2 games)
= 9 h/week :nervous: |
Now looking at it subjectively, do you really want to be wasting 468 hours a year, of your life staring at OTHER people living life? |

How often do you watch TV? On average, how many hours or so do you watch a day/week/month?
I know that I am out of the norm, as I watch VERY little TV. I would say on average, I watch about an hour a month, which is usually with my friend's for social purposes. |
i watched very little tv as well when young, but after freshman year of World history/events in highschool, i made it a habit to watch the news, and if i cant, read a newspaper
quote: | I really don't enjoy watching television as much as I did when I was younger. I have realized there is much more out there in the world, than a brainwashing machine to stare at. |
i dont feel tv brainwashes anyone. it may try to set trends and standars but i think it affects the poeple who have no sence on who they are
quote: | I think 98% of the shows on TV are garbage, and I prefer not to feed my brain that. Yes, I am out of the media loop massively, but I don't really care. What happens to stars, and other people around the world has little affect on me, if any at all. | stars, celebs etc have no influence but political events, natural events etc are good to know imo and intresting sometimes
but 99% is trash out there.. specially with the new reality wave of shows that have hit the tv screens
quote: | I do not know a lot of the world events, as I avoid newspapers as well. Perhaps this makes me ignorant, but one of my favourite quotes is "ignorance is bliss". |
i dont talk about events in the world to any of my friends, so preatty much pointless, but suppose, when there is a dinner here in my house, usually if i want to talk i better know what im talking about or else, ill look like a dumbass.. plus its fun to know a little of everything
quote: | I would much rather deal with my life, and my own issues alone, rather than trying to take on the world problems as well. I am the type to fret, and pine for others that I cannot help across the world. I do not like feeling negatively towards society, and so I shut myself off to the brutality of what it really is. |
sounds cheesy but u can always help poeple around the world, even if its just alittle, help is help and noone will turn down help when in need, keep that in mind. feeling negative about society is the only way i feel there can be change.. and change is a good thing, y do u think improvments have been made to everything over the years, something can be good, but always can be improved.. this goes for everything in life. so tahst y its always good to be on the lookout for "negative" things, or things that can be improved
quote: | Of course, in the back of my head, I am aware of what is going on, but "out of sight, out of mind". I would say I lead a much happier lifestyle now that I am not so aware of the tragedies occuring all over the world on a daily basis. |
sandly most of the stuff shown on tv, news etc is tragety
but alot of other good things happen as well that are shown on tv/news/etc
quote: | My friends think I am weird, and I suppose I am; compared to what is seen as normal. However, I do not think it is normal for people to sit and stare at a box for hours on end. I also don't think it is natural for people to be so exposed to what goes on everywhere. I think it corrupts people more than it teaches. That is my opinion however, and I could most certainly be wrong. |
if u are well informed, you will not be corrupted but shown just another side of the coin
wow that took like 5 minutes! or more!!! |

I do not live in fear either, and so my concentration is put towards what can make my life more efficient, better, and happier, instead of worrying about what may happen if we go to war, etc. etc.
I am by far, not stupid. I read books, watch movies, use the internet (which is where I recieve most of my media updates) and I talk to many, many people who discuss current events. So, I am not completely in the dark. However, I am not constantly reminded either, and I like it that way.
My friends think I am weird, and I suppose I am; compared to what is seen as normal. However, I do not think it is normal for people to sit and stare at a box for hours on end. It is a life choice I have made, and I am happy leading it this way. What I want to know is, how often do you watch television? Do you think it has helped you? Do you think that the exposure you recieve to disasters, tragedies, deaths, war, and all the other stuff has somehow corrupted you, or helped you? Do you think that you have become insensitive to others because of the over-exposure you recieve from media?
Give me your thoughts. |
I guess it depends on countries but yea 98 per cent of the TV programms are crap IMO, nowadays a lot of people like all of you and me watch much less TV because/thanks to the internet.
TV manipulates people, at least on the internet you are a bit active and you choose what you wanna hear... those days all the TV programms are made to please the pervert people who likes Real TV and something... when you see the difference between 60-70's TV and 2000's TV i wonder me what we'll see on TV in like 50 years... |
