After reading the articles/threads, I see your position. But I still hold mine. The intelligence supplied by Isreal was also backed by the Russians, French and British. Also it is true that the Baath Party was assisted by the United States. They hated the Iranians at the time so they were buddies with us. At the same time, we help the Afghans who were fighting the Soviets.
We help who is in our best intrests at the time. |

| I don't find that being a bad thing though. It is politics after all. Back in the day it was all driven by the "Threat of communism". I'm just really wondering what's it all about tonight. Jews? Hard to figure out really but it doubtfully was about oil. Prices are up because countries like China and India are on a industrial rise very quickly and demand astronomical ammounts of oil. This is a complex issue, the war that is. We tried to free the "oppressed" people and half of them turned their backs on us. So that makes you wonder what the true objective was. I don't think oil could've been it otherwise we wouldn't spend billions of dollars researching Cold Fussion and other cheap ways of energy. All I know is that fossil fules aren't going to be around too long and when that happens (or we come up with another solution) so long dependancy on the Middle East and in my opinion, thank God for that. |

Oil was certainly part of our interest in the part of the world including Iraq and our occupation. Like no one really gives a f*ck about genocide in Sudan because there's no vital resources located there.

Sudan does have oil, as does Nigeria, many other parts of africa (where it is undiscovered), as well as many places in South America where they are having problems where we don't intervene as well.
Actually no one gave a about genocide in Iraq either for many years even though it has one of the largest reserves on earth. |

There are a number of reasons Iraq was invaded...
The Americans believed Saddam sponsored al-Qaida (or at least they said they did unlike the British)
US/UK believed Saddam was producing WMDs (and there is still a huge quantity of unnacounted for sarin somewhere in Iraq)
Saddam had plans for some kind of pan-Arab state (hence invasions of Iran/Kuwait)
The sanction regime had claimed the lives of between 300,000 and 500,000 Iraqis (which Tony Blair decided had to end)
If the sanctions ended, that would give Saddam free reign again (so an alternative had to be found, they chose war, but could have gone the Gadafi route)
Then there are the "other" factors...
US foreign policy towards the Middle East is double edged - Oil and Israel (two conflicting policies often)
Also, most people in the US Administration signed up for the Project for a New American Century that advocated regime change in unfriendly Middle Eastern countries as not to prejudice the oil supply (the aim here is not to "steal" the oil, but merely to ensure the supply continues as one, it could be used as a very powerful weapon (OPEC oil crisis in the 70s) and two, any significant change in oil production would completely the world economy over...) |

+1 You hit the nail right on the head. But don't for get Oil For Food scandal. That is a BIG "other" factor.
Saddam in Power = Money for me, No Saddam = No money for me. These officials are pigs. People is Iraq were not getting this UN sanctioned money for food but to line their own pockets. |
