Responding to negativity and condescension is not negativity and condescension. Action, reaction. Any action can be criticized when taken out of context but may be completely justified if looked at as a reaction. If I provoke you with tumid angry retorts to perfectly reasonable statements, I should expect the same in return.

For someone who works in the legal profession I am surprised at you. You bite and claw like a cornered cat when you feel you are losing a debate. Lawyers should know better than to resort to that under such circumstances because it has a way of worsening the situation. "Spoiled brat living off daddy?" Where on Earth did that come from?

I am not sure precisely what you think I should apologize for, but you're right about one thing - I don't intend to "mind my manners" with you after outbursts like that one (and that isn't the first time it's happened, either). I tend to be the "no hard feelings" type, but I doubt there's much to gain from the acquaintance of such a judgmental person. At times I let it slip and fail to address a person as an intellectual equal (justified or not), but that is a far cry from implicating them as personality-disordered and morally bankrupt.

Talking to you about law or politics is like talking to a Christian Fundamentalist about God. BURN IN HELL, BLASPHEMOR!! Grow up.

(Before your next response....stop and think about how easy you are to manipulate)

This thread is stale swamper.........time to make it "Rest in Peace" before the little ones resort to name calling again.

You have the debating style of a frustrated 15 year-old, I'm sorry if my estimation was a little off. But I base things like that on how people handle themselves in a discussion. When you begin to lose, you declare yourself the victor, tell us to read a book you've skimmed through (usualy on another subject entirely), and rather than deal with the points we bring up you change the subject or say things like "Predictable". Predictable? Damn right, I'd expect Diginut to make a well thought-out post with valid counter-arguments against one of your outbursts.

While we're at it, you may want to invest some time into running your posts through a spell-checker, and a grammar check couldn't hurt either. I've given up reading most of your longer posts because it takes an extra 30 minutes to desifer(sp) what you've typed. When in a debate, it's paramount that your thoughts and ideas be laid-out in a clear and concise manner. Yours are not.

Yes but as we are so frequently reminded (by the losing debaters), this is an internet forum and not a classroom! :haha:

hu reely neds too no hoe 2 spel neway, i meen ppl wil gte teh msg reguardliss.

(Funny thing is, faking the poor spelling and punctuation actually takes a lot more effort for me than writing properly)

"its just the internet" is so lame.

why? because these are real people and real ideas and real emotion being transmitted through the internet.

Sure being semi anonymous and behind a screen will change one's behaviour but it's still real because it's being created by real people.
DigiNut
^^ yeah I was being facetious Jay.

Obviously, the quality of one's writing is a reflection of their personality. Which is certainly not to say that people who don't have 100% perfect grammar and punctuation are idiots - far from it! But if you don't talk to people like you've got peanut butter in your mouth, then why type like you've got jizz on your hands?

Egregious spelling and grammar on the 'net is no different from ridiculous pronunciation errors on the phone or in person (like "nucular").

Yes, this message board is ultimately fueld by real people's input, but I find the scope of interaction to be very limited. We just had a political debate and so far, I get the sense that Jay or DigiNut might not like b4k-oz or me simply based on our political beliefs and standpoints on issues. I personally have no doubt that you guys are great people that know how to party (we are in a trance themed board) but simply disagree on some issues.

Some people take it too far when they cross the line, insult, and make personal assumptions and judgements against eachother. That's when "it's just the internet" comes into play because it means that there are far more dimensions to this person that some are quick to ignore and proceed with verbal attacks.

Why would you get that sense? I don't know you. Have I said something specific to indicate a particular dislike toward you?

I'm pretty sure I mentioned quite specifically that I don't form personal opinions of people based on their political/religious/etc. beliefs, because it really says very little about how they are in their day-to-day interactions.

What matters is what they do with their beliefs. It's only people who get on their high horse (which is not at all the same as being a strong and confident debater), or people who get all intense and personal when their beliefs are challenged, that I begin to form a negative opinion of. On the other hand, there are people whom I don't see eye-to-eye with but are able to speak intelligently and express themselves clearly without being condescending, and many of those people I get along with great. I'm always interested in people I think I can learn from, regardless of their particular beliefs.

Well not necessarily me in particular, but what you and b4k-oz have been bickering about. You guys both interpreted something in your debate as being personally insulting and let it explode.

Statements like "What are you on?" or "pathetic" really shouldn't be used in a debate. Read, understand, and rebutt, don't make it personal. That's how threads turn to and board members stop liking eachother, without even knowing eachother which is a shame. I've been guilty of subtle comments too, but I try to refrain from them as much as I can.

I'll be at Satoshi Tomiie on Saturday, and I would like to meet you guys. Wouldn't want this debate to create animosity.

:)
