In the past I would have said yes, but I think it was a shallow viewpoint on the issue.
Death is just death. When you are dead you have no feelings or regrets, no suffering, and no sadness. It is much worse to be the survivor, to see the lifeless body of the person you love so deeply and to be powerless to do anything for them. That pain and that suffering cannot be imagined unless you have experienced it yourself, and it is a fate far worse than death. So I do not think I could ever believe that I would actually be doing someone a favor by dying if they truly cared about me, and if I genuinely loved someone I think that is the very last thing I could ever bring myself to put them through. |
so basically, you'd rather them die instead? because you don't want them to be sad? :conf: |

I understand that, and I agree. But that's not the kind of situation I was on about... I mean, would you die just to make that person happy, if it was the only way, ya know?
It's pretty much a rhetorical question, not often does one actually have to die for another person, it's not a choice you can make. |

:wtf: "Honey, I'm sad, could you go kill yourself. It'll make me really happy."
"Of course dear." |

If they die instead, then I'm the one who has to bear the worse fate. And if you really care about someone, you would want them to suffer the lesser of two evils.
I can understand your confusion as someone who has lived a sheltered life where death seems to be the worst possible fate, but in reality there are many things worse than death, and if my loved one must die to be protected from something worse than death, then of course I would choose that.

In that situation, I would be willing to die of course, but I'm not sure it could ever happen, because I don't know if I could love someone who could be happy at my death. |

Ideally, yes. I would absolutely die for the one I love. In fact, one of the few girls I have ever loved (as I have come to realize) was moved by the fact that I straight-up answered this question when she asked me out of the blue one day. She also asked me if "I had a choice between the world dying and the one I loved dying, which would I choose"? I answered her with the utmost seriousness, and perhaps the utmost selfishness. I chose the one I love. I choose to die, to sacrifice myself in something I would believe in. I cannot imagine a more significant life than to die in the name of an ideal by which I hold as sacred as love.
It's unfortunate that life does not give us the ability to choose these things though. It's so often on unfavorable circumstances that we must make these sorts of ultimate decisions. However, they seem to be few and far between, and most people seem to die in a boring state of bliss rather than by sacrifice towards an ideal. |

| I'd lean towards no. The concept of death kinda creeps me out. |
