If you have the DVD...you MUST WATCH the film with the commentary by Zach Braff and Natalie Portman...its hilarious and really interesting. |

So I finally viewed the movie about 2 days ago. Fairly nice... I'm mostly impressed with the filming methods and just how the scenes came out. Also, the soundtrack owns like no other.
I hated Natalie Portman's character. Very annoying. Also, the ending was forced.
Just wondering what your impressions of the "idea" behind the movie is. Since all the people were shown at the end, one by one, I think it has to do with those few lines that Large dropped in the pool about a "home".
Then again, I'm crazy so it probably doesn't make any sense. |

I didn't like this movie at all. there just isnt enough content in it. the writing was bad, and i was left feeling like "ok...thats it?"
the ending was hollywood tripe. dont need much to see that comming. as if he would actually get on the plane, the movie would have just been totally useless...but much more funny. there are MANY better love stories. go and rent last life in the universe, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, and hell, even rent sideways. this movie was just cliche...and had so many uncomfortable moments. for instance: when zach braff is at that party at the beginning. now there were some ty lines there, ho-ly crap. it just wasnt believable at all.
ah hell..i dont have much of an argument, i just Strongly feel that this movie...represented nothing. sure, i can relate to many things. but...there didnt seem like there was a very sensible resolution to these things when they came up in the movie. that insane change of heart at the end where he decides to get off the plane, just shows how ing insecure he still is. when your in love...you dont just leave the bitch sittin there. :stongue:
dont try and argue with me...because frankly i wont be able to defened my point much:tongue3
ps. sideways was hilarious. just so goddamn humble for its own good. which made it all the more charming:stongue: |

im a huge fan of independent movies, and i must say that Garden State sucks...I live in Jersey, so it does somewhat a good portrayal of the social situations that we encounter, such as hanging out at the rich jewish kids house whos rents are loaded and doing crazy ...and it kindof shows well how ur average post H.S. kids endup in this wretched state...ripping bongs and working at medieval times hehe, but overall i thought the movie was promising at the begining, then just made less and less sense as it moved along, i think the artistic side took over and the director forgot that the movie also needed plot and a ing point, think he forgot those while trying to be artsy. The main character in the movie...damn i can relate to him, personality wise. |
exactly how i see it.
ps. im curious who that man is in your avitar...and much less the woman. but the man...so familier...not jeff mills is it?
edit: couldnt be mills |

I first saw this movie back in summer 2005 not sure if it was dubbed to french or in the original language but I really liked the movie at the time.
I remember my father thinking it sucked and was stupid but then again he tends to always hate the movies I really like.
I just saw it again yesterday and woah I forgot how good it was.
The lead grows to a point where he breaks away with the shackles that were holding him back all his life.
The love that blossoms after such a brief time may appear as weak directing, poor writing but it is nothing more than natural after the surreal connection that happens between the two it would all come down to that.
Love does not have to be drawn out, sometimes you just find a person with who you have an incredible connection from the first moment the two meet.
The overall moods, lighting and shots were at times so magnificiently planned.
oh yeah and the music kicks arse.

| i still think it was overrated with too much overacting. |

| I liked it just because it takes place in NJ. |
