Wait, I thought prohibition was a success?
You haven't provided any evidence at all to show that abstinence only education programs were any more successful than comprehensive sex education programs. Contrary to your lack of evidence, MisterOpus has provided a wealth of resources demonstrating the failures of abstinence only education. You continually fail to grasp the simple concept that abstinence only education programs emphasize that condoms do not prevent disease and pregnancy because they are "only" 99% effective. These programs emphasize abstinence as the only solution. Comprehensive sex ed programs state that abstinence is the most effective method, however, in the event of sex, condoms can be immensely effective in preventing disease and pregnancy. Hence it adopts a mutli-tiered approach towards maximizing prevention. |
dude. we thaught these programs at the hospital where i work. they are nothing like you describe them whatsoever. |

Well they're not gonna bloody wear em if they are told not to/not taught the value of wearing one are they?!

Ah the vague appeal to authority once again that's supposed to satisfy all the questions without actually answering any of them. Ok well you’re the expert apparently, so you should be able to provide further detail than a simple “they are nothing like you describe them”. So what is the curriculum of these courses than? Also how are you the expert on what sex education programs in schools teach particularly since 93% of them are taught in the schools not hospitals. I distinctly remember taking sex ed in my high school health class. |

Actually the people that will suffer most from a reorientation of sex education are the poor and uninformed. Some of these kids only learn about this stuff in public school.
Less flow of practical information leads to a certain group getting left out in the cold. No need to mention party afiliations and the lack of coincidence in this matter. |

rofl.. i'm sorry, i just see this turning into another occ/opus religion styled bitch-slapping. my assumptions are that you're dealing with a sponge-bathing cna with minimum contact to the outside world, who declares expertese after serving four of his six months of externship in a hospital.
from my understanding, sex ed. programs are meant to educate kids of the ways to prevent stds and pregnancy. minimalizing the process to preaching "just don't do it" hardly constitutes an education in my book. if a child chooses to ignore what he/she knows and the worst case scenerio manifests, if they've been taught preventive measures, at least they can't plead ignorance.
i'm still a little miffed by our resident cna's concurrence with this administration's opinion that teen pregnancy will be prevented if we tell our kids not to have sex. perhaps he cares to elaborate, unless he just reaccuses me of putting words in his mouth. (btw, if condoms work only 99.8% of the time, seves, there's a .2% failure rate;) ) |
