The option I took was not to go to any, and subsequently lost the £15 application fee :)

newcastle and manchester were my main 2 choices. I chose newcastle in the end (plus lived near manchester beforehand and have mates there i regularly visit) but that was mainly due to the fact the course "seemed" better suited to me (turned out the contary but thats besides the point). From the experience ive had, id say pick the best one for your course before picking the nightlife. both cities have great nightlife so it kinda fails into insignificance. but for the record for trance and hard house nights, newcastle has Promise (more trance orientated) plus vuzz and twisted logic, both small nights but are gettin much better now having some decent lineups (ben lost, jon o'bir, les hemstock to name a few). Manchester has Goodgrief (Hardhouse orientated, and is currently situatated a little more out the city centre) also Tangled which has its fair share of breaks, trance and house djs on, plus has a couple of smaller nights with the likes of pulser, thrillseekers etc on so on a similar scale to the smaller nights in newcastle. So to be fair theres really not much in it. Like i said, ur course comes first mate.

Btw u talking about Manchester & Newcastle Uni's or Northumbria & Manchester Met? also wot course?

im talking about manchester and newcastle unis not northumbria n met

Im going to study economics. Manchester is the better uni for economics but its SOOOO close to home, i mean i live in Bolton which is like 20mins from the uni.

Also on my list of acceptances is;

Essex, birmingham, lancaster, leicester

But there all just 2nd places choices to be honest.

newcastle uni has loads of uni organised on + newcastle is a mint city, part of the reason why i didnt move away to uni.

the uni is also full of ra's, take it from me first hand coz i go there, there are loads of decent people aswell. chris (ele_vate) off this board goes to manchester uni and he reakons it's just the same down there too.

my best suggestion is you take a look round both campus' + possible accomodation if you still can. i do have a friend doing business & economics @ newcastle and she thinks it's really good, albeit a lot of work and difficult in parts.

Traditionally Manchester has been a mecca for music, but I think the legacy of the Haçienda days is gone now, but Manchester is booming at the moment, apartment buildings are being built everywhere.

Do you think it's wise to base your choice of uni on which city has the best night life?

No Nottingham :eyes:

great uni for economics, sweet campus and good nightlife.

Allough as said, I would seriously NOT pick a uni based on nightlife.

Firstly, you will not find like minded clubbing friends (almost certainly you wont), that means most nights you will be dragged out with your uni mates to cheese/rnb infested holes. Which can be drunken fun occasionally.

Fridays and Saturdays, all your friends will be in the union and not out in town. Hence motivating your self is difficult enough, so it makes little difference if you have to get a train to another city.

My point is student nightlife is the same anywhere there is a uni.

Specialist trance / breaks / techno, whatever you like are best kept as weekend / less frequent treats so i wouldnt worry if its local or not.

Your course on the other hand is very important, its important for potential employers, its important that you enjoy it, so pick on course alone.
