and if you think trance is dying here, you're just not looking |
Not dieing. Struggling. ;)
I support as many Trance events as I can/afford. maybe I am looking in the wrong area's, but alot of people that find out I am a DJ, seem to assume I spin HipHop/Rap...
The lasttime DannyO and I came down to Sambuca it was pumping choons. |

Been a bedroom DJ for 7 years + ... Done a few parties over the years, but don't have the networking/time away from day job/schedule to do anything about it. I make monthly sets and make cd's for friends/co-workers but that's about it.
I also live in a city that doesn't give much a rats ass about trance/prog...but every lounge downtown has a little set-up in the corner that someone is "djing" at.
Oh well. |

| No residency, but a couple of gigs, and many house parties. and even though i want a residency, i know i shouldn't if i still want to use my right ear, b/c i suffer from conductive hearing loss since i was a baby and it will only get worse. Playing with records at big gigs is fun, but i just don't wan't to stress my ear more than it is allready. Oh yeah, i've been spinning 5-6 years. |

Oh man sorry to hear that, what about some good earplugs?, some of them out there work wonders. |

I got a pair of crap drummer ones, but it really hurts when you wear earplugs and headphones at the same time. Nah, it's all good, i'm having fun and to me that's all that matters. And besides, i don't want to turn something i love into work. ;) |

This is what I do. Work pretty hard at it too.
Love the actual art of DJing but just get real tired of all the politics around it.
Trance isn't dying but there are some significant changes going on in clubland and you may see it take a back seat for a while.
People sometimes find the too many breakdowns a pain in the ass as they want to keep on dancing.
Therefore I find myself playing a lot of tracks that don't have much in that way but still have that trance feel to them.
Cheers

| No residency yet but I'm working on it. ;) I play out semi-regularly and have played to fairly decent crowds (500-1000). |

yup, had a few gigs here and there. i think its mainly through lack of botheredness and not recording a ing thing that i don't get more regular gigs.
it is however a bit of a new years resolution to pull my finger out my arse and get some chuffing demos dished out. |
Haha amen to that. Lazy asses unite! |

| i'm so bedroom its not even funny. i would also take the 'dj' part out as well. i don't even have tt's. i just play around with traktor/ableton all the time (i'm getting really good ;) ). never played in front of more than 5 people lol. i'm a big fan of edm tho, so that counts for something :) |

i'm in the exact same boat
love my job, tired of the politics
it's even worse here, i say something while drunk eating chinese food after a gig about another dj and the next morning i'm apparently wanting to get him fired and take over his job
then i'm getting calls from club owners going WTF? i thought you were cool?
all is well now though
for anyone who actually wants to persue djing, be prepared for a tough road
make sure you have a solid backup otherwise you could wind up with your thumb up your ass and nothing else |

| I'm a living room dj. I gave my first demo cd out and I've been getting harassed on a weekly basis for almost 6 months to spin at two clubs. I don't think my style would be very popular. I could be wrong. I spin dark/psy trance. |
