Today we had "fundraiser-day" for the Tsunami victims. We managed to raise 112 million euros (150 million dollar) and there is still money coming in. I think it is ing awsome.
The whole country was busy giving money. Children were collecting money, businesses donated enormous amounts of cash.
I mean, we are a little country with 16 million inhabitants and we managed to get 112 million euros. Imagine what the rest of the world could get together.
Everyone who is ableto give some sort of money (5 euro is a lot of money in Indonesia) donate it to charity so that the world can do something for them. The pictures I saw today were horrifying.

sweden did something similair, and they got like 40 million euro, which is also really good considering there small population :) |

| That's awesome. I think I read on CNN that Norway is providing the most money (per capita) than any other country which is pretty cool. I'm also surprised by how much money US companies are giving. It's better than I thought. My company decided to match 1:1 all employee donations so it looks like I'll have to pull out the checkbook once again :). |

Yeah, from what I read in the news today, Norway has donated about 180 million. But I was also surprised to see Japan donating 500 mill. And Canada was in there with 66 Million. Guess we don't have to spend money on our military so we can afford to give some :) |

| I wouldn't be surprised if total donations reach $10billion. Right now government contributions are well over 3billion and I know that they will rise and public contributions at least here in the US and in norway as you pointed out seem to surpass the government contributions. Maybe there will be something leftover to help africa. |

i'm amazed at how much money is being collected here in the USA. Donations pouring in from all over the place... they got telethons ( or whatever they call them) on the televisions and people are donating...
and nice to see that nations accross the world are collecting tons of money for the victims...

I am very pleased to see the aid being donated by private citizens. It seems as though the western governments are picking up as well.
I wonder if the aid at this point is matching the need. Mainly out of curiosity because I know the monetary value of aid is reaching billions. |

I heard Australia just pledged 1 billion dollars, so it probably puts it ahead in the game now.
I am wondering form a logistical standpoint however at what cost does contributing vast amount of money become ineffective.
I'm thinking the International Red Cross Disaster Relief Agency probably went from a one billion dollar organization to a 10-100 billion dollar organization in a matter of two weeks. I don't know how any operations, whether a business or a non-profit can cope with such a growth rate.
