I got this letter from a club in Argentina today. Basically all clubs have closed voluntarily to mourn the loss of 188 people in the nightclub fire last week.
I will post the article in Spanish and I will try to translate it into English.
BTW do we even have a chamber of nightclub and entertainment in toronto? I think this and the fact that all clubs are closing VOLUNTARILY for 2 weeks out of respect for the dead are clear indicators of the type of society Argentina is. Why cant we have this kind of unity in Canada?
quote: | Due to the events of the 30th of December, Maluco integral Beleza as of the Chamber of Nightclubs and Entertainment of the City of Buenos Aires (CEDEBA) wishes to make public it's support with the victims of last week's terrible event and agree with the article it published in citywide and national newspaper that states "the Chamber of Nightclubs and Entertainment of the City of Buenos Aires (CEDEBA) adheres to the national mourning as declared by President, Néstor Kirchner, and the mayor City of Buenos Aires, Aníbal Ibarra. It declares in addition, deep condolencias to the relatives and friends of the victims and hurt in the events of the 30 of December and that are of public knowledge. We have finally expressed our condemnation to pseudo-industralists who irresponsibly make events of governmental function without putting in practice the self-regulation measures industralist which as much we have decried from this Chamber. We also condemn the people who doing without the value of the life generate facts of violence of any type which finally they attempt against the life and the security of our fellow citizens. We invited to a deep reflection."
For such reasons we did not open to our doors weekend the past, respecting the passing of the victims, like thus also accepting the disposition of the Government of the Independent City of Buenos Aires, to remain closed during fifteen days, that is to say, just we will reopen our premises the day Wednesday 19 of January.
Thank you

Atte.

Further your:
"Ohhhh.. I've been to Argentina before. Toronto doesn't have this, Toronto doesn't have that. Why can't Toronto be more like other places" is getting old.
Frankly - we all live here, we all love it, and we all can't get enough of it. Toronto is our home, no home is perfect but your "isn't some 3rd world country more progressive than Toronto" BS rant is a waste of bits and bytes. |

We can all learn from each other. Id like to see unity like that here. God you are cranky today.
It is great here but there are many ways we could make it better. Why dont you try learning from these different perspectives? |

#1 - Yes we can learn from each other. Based on how you conduct yourself here one might suspect you may have a learning disability because you certainly haven't learned anything from interacting with TOTAs.
#2 - You talking about unity is like the Pope supporting abortion. Show some first - then you can "try" to be an authority on it. |

#1: i have learned alot from interacting here. I have learned that a lot of people dont have tolerence of anyone who simply disagrees with them.
#2: all i ever do here is debate. Im not calling people names or insinuating that they are stupid or getting personal with them. Unity is about people with differing views coming together for a common goal. |

They are not closed because of the Tsunami (December 26 2004). They are closed because of the nightclub fire (December 30 2004).
