well, i may only me an HONORARY MTLTA hehe, but there are a huge amount of us southeast TAs going down to miami for this week :)
well, there's one basic thing you need to know for your first trip - if you're under 21, miami stinks!!!! you're probably gonna want to stay on the beach, so you can enjoy the sights and sounds of south beach, hit up some pool parties, and chillax. if you're over 21, party down!!! i'd reccomend staying downtown in this case, because that's where the actual ultra festival is, and also where space is (they throw some of the biggest parties of the week there, including Erick Morillo and the Subliminal crew on wednesday, and pvd/sander k on friday before ultra!!!!!) :crazy: either way, it's about a $25 taxi ride in between downtown / south beach, so just keep that in mind. also, taxis can be a serious PITA to get before/after ultra, so that's another thing to consider. basically, if you're looking to dance and party the whole time, and hit up the beach a couple times during the day, stay downtown (bottom line - downtown is where it's at!!) a bunch of us staying downtown always have cars too, so getting to the beach is never really a problem :)
as for actual hotels, if you're staying downotwn, i'd like to reccomend the sheraton biscayne bay (link) :)
it's in a FANTASITC location (blocks away from both space and ultra), it's very cheap ($84 a night for a 2 person room... and of course you can always cram more people in!!), and they've got a very nice pool/terrace for those after-all-nighter-chill-out-sessions hehe

yea, unfortunately almost all clubs (and even most beach/pool parties) are 21+
you'd be able to go to ultra, and the after-party for ultra, and maybe one of the big nights at space, but that's about it :(

Thanks a lot for all the info!
We're over 21 so no problem there. I've been to Miami and South Beach a couple of times and had a blast every time. Just can't wait to experience it during the conference.
As for a place to stay, we already booked. We're staying on Ocean Drive (south of fifth). A rental by owner on the beach. I guess it should be ok to cab it to Ultra and Space, right? Is there anything else that we're far from?
All the other parties should be close by, like Crobar, Bed, State Nikki Beach, the pool parties or whatever else there is that will be going... Plus we're coming from months of snow and freezing weather so ... beach is a must.
I saw that there's a TA dinner at Opa's on the 25th. Is that for Florida TA's only or how does it work. It would be cool to meet everyone. Unless of course we're too drunk or lost to make it. :D

as for the TA dinner, all are definitely welcome!!! i'd say, actually only about 1/2 of the TAs are going to be southeast, so definitely sign up and drop by!!! i made the mistake last year of not going (was wayyyyyyyyyyyyy to messed up at a pool party at the clevelander lol), but i hear everyone had a BLAST, and i wouldn't give up the chance again to meet some of our more famous TAs (swamper of course will be there, along with MANY big name djs ;) ;) )
so how long are yall going down for?? it's seeming like, the best looking night so far is wednesday the 23 - 5 hour steve lawler set at state, and then after that, a couple of us are gonna go at it again at the subliminal sessions party (LINKY )with erick morillo, harry romero, and other guests ( ;) ;) )going all night of the 23rd, and all the following day at space (can anyone say TERRRRRRRRRRRRACE????) :crazy: :crazy: :crazy: :toocool:

yes, friday the 25th will be amazing as well!
i'm thinking, nikki beach during the afternoon (it's free, so why the hell not?? ;) ), then opa's, then hit up steve porter til around midnight, which is when sander starts spinning on the terrace - he's confirmed for a 9 hour set, but the last time he played there in november, he ended up spinning more like 12 (I think after magik muzik night last year during WMC, he's as hooked on the terrace as we are!!) :D :eyes: :eyes: :eyes:
and yes, sander was SICK at celebration!!! a couple of us flew up from atlanta JUST for that set hehe, and I gotta say it was worth it!! although with all the other bangin' music all night long, I would have been dancing til noon regardless ;) what a party!!!! yall have it lucky tho, because i think i'm hooked and will probably end up coming up there for every new year's in the future lol ... not to mention, with the awesome people i met, great vibes everywhere, and clubs like stereo and aria, i'm in LOVE with your city :gsmile:
anyway, back to miami heh - would like to see zab, seamen, nick warren, and sahsa... as for deep dish, you're most likely in luck, because they usually spin after ultra (and this is also usually their best set of the year!!!!) i'm definitely there for this, unless the ultra after-party at AA arena can throw us something AMAZING
some other peeps I would LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE to see - james holden, satoshi tomiie, infusion, and MATHEW DEKAY (<--- must!! :crazy:)!!!!!
as much as I love prog though, i'd be happy just hitting up prog parties all day/night at ultra to kind of chill out a week long of craziness lol :toocool: - what i'm REALLLLLLY hoping for is a good techno night to squeeze in there on thursday ;)
Cox (booked for ultra!!!)? picotto? liebing? vath? beyer? i'd be happy with any/all!!
and getting there the 19th??? dang, lucky yall!!! you're gonna have a nice tan before we even get there :p |
