Instead of visiting the scene of the disaster almost 2 weeks after it happened, why didn't he send DART there within 2 days of the disaster SO WE COULD ACTUALLY SAVE LIVES???!?!!?

One minute you are talking about the respect that the Argentinians are giving to the people who perished in the club fires by having the national day of mourning and then you question why the leader of your country is going to an area which has been devasted by one of the worst natural disasters of our time. This is either a very silly rhetorical question, or you're just blind to the obvious.

The reason beside it being good PR, is to show respect, and honestly, what's wrong with him going as a symbol of Canadians who are working hard to get funds sent to the people over there. The money it costs for his trip is literally a drop in the bucket, so saying that it could be better spent is simply ridiculous. They don't need $20,000. They need $20 million.

Is it absolutely essential that he goes. No, it isn't. Is it good for the profile of Canada as one of the countries which is actively trying to help. Absolutely !

I think respect in the form of cash would be better felt by the people of the disaster most of whom would never even know that our prime minister was there in the first place. You think they are listening to the radio or watching tv at this moment?

Sorry this is a waste

Actually India REFUSED monetary aid arising from the disaster.

oh... wait.

nope. no, just Jayx1 :toothless

Id be critisizing this no matter which party did this. I dont think anyone should be touring the damage other than the leaders of the affected regions and aid workers who are actually there to do something.

I'm sure a 'leisurely tour' like you're making it sound like, isn't what is intended...

What about the vacation Martin took in Africa on taxpayer's expense while the disaster was unfolding? We didn't hear from him until January. DART should have been sent on Dec. 27.

My point was that monetary aid is not what is needed at the moment. Supplies of fresh water, medicine and manpower is what is needed.
