Well we got a Compaq right now and it's awesome (XMas present).
Battery life is good and it is great to use.
Then again, we got it half price cos my uncle works for Hewlett Packard (which bought out Compaq) |

| I got an NEC recently... it's one of those "desktop replacement" models so its fat and pretty heavy, but i got it for a very good price so i aint complaining. I heard Toshibas are good and Sony come out with some very sexy but overpriced models... oryou could always go teh trendy option and get a mac. |

| I've got this IBM R40 that i've been currently using for the last 1 year or so, it's pretty reliable, max battery life time with minimal usuage is around 5 hrs. But of course, anything from IBM is expensive, i'll probably recommend Dell. |

| Definitely Apple. My friend's 15" Powerbook is so great. I'd especially get an Apple laptop if you have a PC desktop that you're satisfied with. |

i've bought myself an acer travelmate last month, and i'm pretty happy with it... it's light, battery lasts a long time, it's damn fast (centrino power), and it's not too expensive, compared to other brands
/me happy! |

My GF has a Sony Vaio S-260 which is very light, battery runs forever, and very thin......price was about 1500 USD after rebate. That's what I would go for if I can pick another laptop again
If u are looking for budget/value computer....the Averatec C3500 Convertible Notebook is only about 1300 USD with a swivel screen and touch screen. They also make compact computers for a cheap price
I would also recommend the Sharp Actius MM20 which is a 2.5 lbs laptop for a about 1500 but this u'll need the extended battery for it to last longer |
