I dunno.. my Dell works pretty well. It's two years old and runs counter-strike source just fine. I'm happy with it.

if you're good with computers etc, i'd either customize your own/build your own or go with the best deal you can find for the money
if you're not that great, i'd go with dell just cause they have the best tech support ever
i've had a dell 5150 since the summer and had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever
love it in fact, and i'd recommend it :)

I have a dell 9100 and it's a beast. it's running a 3ghz p4 so it's power hungry though, battery lasts less than 2 hours. It's a furious machine though, it can run most games better than my desktop, and it's a widescreen with 1680x1050 resolution, so everyhting looks beautiful.

If its in your budget get an ibm.

to be honest i've always had a dell in mind, i just wanted to see what people had to say. I'm going to be buying one from their outlet since they're so much cheaper.

most of the new ones come with the centrino processor's, which consume far less battery life. At the moment they conly go to to 2Ghz, but to be honest, when the hell will i need more than 2? not often.

i'm going to be using this bad boy for everything, including my computing course, playing games, and now i'm reviving a DJ career it will be used in that running ableton live etc. i will be buying an external HD and sound card for when im at home.

the model i would get at the momemt if I had all the money now would be the dell 9200 as it would cover all my needs...

i had an IBM T40 until it got stolen last month... :( i loved that computer. it never crashed on me and was really fast. i dunno what it costs though - my work paid for it.

my bf has a compaq and it causes us a lot of headaches. i highly recommend NOT getting a compaq.

Laptops are notoriously overpriced for underpower when compared to PCs. Have had a couple and will never buy another. Am trying to get the LCD on my last one soldered into the fish finder on my boat right now for a display instead of just completely throwing it in the garage can.

IBM are the most reliable, but are the most expensive as well.

I have heard very good things about the Sony models as far as reliability goes as well.

Dell is hit or miss. Of the 3 people I know well who have Dell laptops, 2 of them have had to have major warranty repairs done several times. My friend Chris finally made the Dell people send him a new computer instead of replacing ALL of the internal parts a second time to try and fix the issue. The reason Dell talks about their award winning service and support is because they cannot count on winning any reliability awards.
