IMHO,
#1 problem with most people is that they can't eat in moderation (I used to be the same, especially when it came to sweets/pastries). We tend to be greedy and want more (woohoo, supersize my combo meal for only a buck more).
#2 problem would be lack of exercise (my stepdad would drive everywhere, even to the back across the street).
There are other factors that contribute to our health problems/obesity, but I think that the above two are the major causes. You can go into great detail about each one, but I think this has been covered on here awhile back. |

| I heard recently, too, that eliminating sugar and instead using sugar substitutes are bad, because your body is still craving sugar. Sweeteners only give your body a taste of "sugar" and you end up consuming more garbage (pop, etc.) in order to get the satisfaction of real sugar. So eat cake and eat candy. Just less cake and less candy. Mmmmmm Candy. Oh, speaking of which, weight watchers says if you crave a sweet treat to eat ju jubes or licorice. Low bad fat. Tasty sugary sweet treats! Mmmmm ju jubes. |

I couldn't give a rats ass about what I eat or don't eat.
It's not like I'm trying to maintain some girlish figure here. Metabolism keeps me at a nice steady weight. Well, and running. |

lol well that's why :p...I was just gonna say.
I used to do A LOT of sports before when I was younger and then stopped when I moved here...or at least dramatically slowed down and my metabolism just DIED! I balooned like crazy...anyway now I'm paying for it by having to kill myself at the gym...but I actually enjoy it so no complains here :) |

| Stupid topic..... Atkins does NOT say to get all your protien from RED meat first off. Nor do they tell you to totally cut out your carbs. The simply teach you which carbs to eat and which ones to avoid. Before you make these ignorant comments try doing some research. I've been following the Atkins/South Beach diet for almost a year, feel and look the best I ever have. My calorie intake is also higher than it ever was. But I still am able to maintain a comfortable weight. |

The funny thing is....
I really do love chocolate (the milk variety though) and sweets...
But after a while, the cravings go away...:)...I did go on a bit of a chocoholic binge over the holidays...cookies, cake, chocolate, Reeses Peanut Butter Cups (both the milk and white chocolate variety)..Godiva...cheesecake...YUM
But I am back to my plan now...and I did not balloon up over the holidays either...perhaps a pound or two, but that is back off now already....
And by the way..for me..besides great sex, a great meal can't be beat...I lived in Europe for a few years where they really do treat eating like a event, with multiple courses and tastes rather than the 'Drive-through' mentality we have in North America.....So I really, really do love eating well....:D.....but that is tempered with the knowledge of what my body needs to function...so as it has been said multiple times in this thread...Moderation...;) |

It'll help you understand WHY that rice you love may be the reason your not happy with your reflection in the mirror. The South Beach diet is a litttle more laid back than the Atkins, but still promotes the "low carb lifestyle" Which in both cases are not suppose to be done as a diet that you go on and off of. Anyways way too much to explane just do a little research I think you'll be supprised. |

ANd unlike low fat "snacks" they actually taste good! |

| No they don't...none of them actually tastes like real chocolate ;) unless it's the DARK chocolate which is low in calories fat and everything else to begin with ;) |
