Was just reading the February edition of British GQ where they have a short little interview/article about Freddie Ljungberg...for those who don't know he's an Arsenal player and he's on all the CK Underwear ads - he will be the model for the new line of CK Underwear as well...
Anyway, here's what Freddie has to say
The diet: "As many carbs as possible, fish and chicken, the occasional glass of wine and lots of Coca-Cola" :wtf:
Of course that comes with chasing the ball around pretty much every day - so do that and you'll look like Freddie ;) |

The brain needs glucose to function efficiently, and it takes a long time to break down fat and protein to get to the brain. The Atkins diet doesn't permit a high intake of fruits and vegetables, and this is contrary to the recommendation of most nutrition experts. There is also potential loss of bone on the Atkins diet.
So people, lower your food intake and exercise. :) |

I went to a nutritionist recently who put me on a diet which makes me eat 6 times a day! Considering i used to eat only once a day, it's kinda hard to force it sometimes :p
Either ways, this diet is fairly strict, special k or egg whites in the morning, low fat yogurt as a morning snack, chicken or tuna for lunch with either salad or brown rice, protein shake as the afternoon snack (and omg do those things fill you up or what), chicken or beef in the evening with mixed vegetables and salad, and another protein shake at night.
Now normally i wouldn't do the protein shake but i go to the gym 4 times a week so they help a lot. Apparently my diet changes next week though... He said it's always a good thing to keep your body guessing so the diet changes roughly every 10-15 days. |

^^^ that's good! are you trying to lose weight, gain weight, or what?
eating throughout the day is definitely the key, regardless of someone's goals...I've trained myself to do the same...protein shake for breakfast, lunch is 3 hours later and is chicken and veggies, afternoon snack of a protein bar of some kind, dinner is usually a ton of veggies (broccoli, peppers, carrots, etc) and chicken/turkey/fish (sometimes brown rice too) and a snack or protein shake later in the evening or after a workout.
It's hard to eat often and, in my case, to eat enough so as to put on some mass...but you get used to it!

where does Atkins say that high veggie intake isn't permitted? I'm not an Atkins disciple, by any stretch, but I don't think it says that anywhere...avoiding high glycemic index fruits and veggies, yes. |

That sounds like a typical very high protein diet that a gym nutritionist would perscribe :p...Am I right? :p |

You don't need them...you can eat a can of tuna or a chicken breast and yo'll get the same effect...all these are supplements...supplements supplementing real food - so just shove another chicken in the oven lol :p |

supplements are not cheap, but they're not overly expensive either, when you factor in what "decent" food costs anyway. It's also quick and convenient...and more easily and quickly digested (which is good after a workout, for eg.)
my everyday breakfast shake is usually strawberry Muscle Milk, by CytoSport. ~300 calories, 29g protein, 12g fat, 17g carbs...and contains a vitamin/mineral supplement too, in addition to the multi I take every day...mixed in water with BluberryForce greens. It tastes soooo good!
I pick it up wholesale through a friend for $38, no tax. The greens are another $36 + tax...so ~$80 for breakfast for an entire month...that's not outrageous.
It's not terribly high calorie, but I eat lunch within 3 hours of that, so it works well for me.
Either that or buy a big tub of just protein...blend it with water or skim milk, a banana, ice, some other fruit (berries are my fave), and a couple of teaspoons of flax oil ($10-15 for a whole bottle of organic) and you're set.
If anyone's interested, I can get 2.5lb Muscle Milk for $38, no tax, or a big 5lb tub of CytoSport Complete Whey protein for $42, no tax ;) |

oh and the other problem is
"exactly what is in it"
Im an athlete subject to random drug tests. We go by WADA standards, same as olympic athletes, so doping is a serious issue for me. Im so scared Im going to test positive for something I didnt knowingly take that is found in the supplements. |
