incidentally a large trade surplus for Canada was announced.

"Combined with the news of a record U.S. deficit, the results are a huge boost to the [Canadian dollar], and reinforce the view that the underlying trend in the currency will still be higher in 2005," she said.

expect our interest rates to go up if we continue at this growth. |

The dollar hasn't risen because of the decline in the US dollar (due to the american trade deficit).. it has only affected the exchange rate.
The rise in the canadian dollar has more to do with the canadian trade surplus (and hence strong economy) previously mentioned by drgoodvibe |

actually there hasnt been much rise at all in the canadian currency compared to most other currencies. The problem is that canadians only measure against US dollars which have dropped substantially against most currencies. Therefore the comparison to the US dollar offers a false view of where our dollar really stands in the world. |

*sigh*
OK...the whole idea of this thread was (read first post) you can now get much better deals from the US ;) as in...cheaper because our exhange rate is better...I don't really care about other currencies. You get taxed much less in the US (if at all) and most products are a bit cheaper as well - put that together with the neat new exchange rate and you get some serious savings! :D That's all...me no care about Euro right now that wasn't the point of this thread ;) |
