| Yeah i like 'dirty mixing' but it should sounds decent esp. not having beats out of sync. My 'dirty mixing' here refers to not just mixing track after track. That's a little boring. |

I think you mean something like if you went to see a band, you don't want the songs to sound exactly like they do on the album track done in the studio, where everything sounds like it's been touched up to be 100% perfect with sound levels, etc. You want it to sound "live" with some extras thrown in so you know they're actually mixing, right? I can understand that, though I like it to sound almost at studio quality |
sort of. there are dj's that play the track exactly as they are on the album for 90 percent of trax. But to keep the crowd interested and mix it dirty u have to mess around with other tools than the turntable and mixer. But often certain dj mess around so so much that once in a while their mixing goes off a bit. So to keep it dirty and flawless is to it up only once in a whiel or it will be dirty and unflaweless. |

I know what you mean. Djing should be fun and creative. Watching djs just move the faders up and down or left and right can be very boring. I give much props to djs that incorporate turntablism and the personal style in their sets. I think it gives the crowds a bang for their buck. Djs overlook the mixer and tables. Their instruments too that should be manipulated and ed with in every possible way. |
I would consider this point valid if the DJ were a hip-hop DJ. But, for trance music, turntablism sounds absurd. Mixing trance is all about the journey. You build, and build and build..layer..upon layer upon layer.I think for trance DJ's , beatmatching is VERY important and it holds priority above other things. For genres like hip-hop, beathmatching is not that important and more importance goes to turntablism and flamboyance. |

as far as harmonic mixing, that is always a plus. Mixing two songs that are off key is just bad.
but as far as mixing that is raw, its only acceptable if its done by dave clark and carl cox because u know whatever they are doing, its gotta be tricky. |

| I thought the whole point of mixing was to build a seamless string of music. |

| I prefer quality mixing. I agree that artists should add their own "personal touch" as they mix, but off-beat and/oror mis-queued is not personal, it's just sloppy. In addition, I'm very beat-oriented, so off-beat tracks annoy me even to the point where I almost had to stop dancing and yell, "Pitch-up damnit!" at Marco V last October. He corrected himself, though. |

I agree with you....... beat matching is the first thing you learn as a DJ, it should be matched all the way through the mix even if you are throwing in the odd extra to hype up your set, if the DJ is off beat then in my opinion I’d say he or she should go back to the bedroom and practice. |

| I prefer solid mixing with aspects of individuality. For example, on an on night, I'll get locked in early and have plenty of time to tweak eq's, add kicks to breakdowns, or even use some effects. I just don't like sacrificing the beat-match for tricks. Lock it in and then play with it. Or be adjusting subtley while tweaking things. As long as you're close to locked in, you should be able to do two things at once. |

| woah, its definately not about being able to beatmatch. Hopefully all professional DJ's can beatmatch. Its about being able to hear the DJ sometimes, and not the record sometimes. |
