Well I don't know about you're classic trance, but your classic trance has. Yeah, several tracks have made to widespread play. And the genres they represent are structurally no different. Therefore are also pop.
| quote: | | I live in Britain, which is the country where EDM has the highest profile anywhere in the world. In a year where dance music spent 10 weeks at number one and we had Top 10 albums by The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, Faithless and Groove Armada, epic trance barely made a dent on the radio or TV. |
Yeah, that's all pop music.
| quote: | | Say what you like, music does not become pop just because it appears on MTV. There is a distinctive genre of music that is only definable by the term "pop". That is pop music. Anything else is not pop music. It is as simple as that, and your mardy elitist rants to the contrary are wrong. |
All music that gets air time on MTV is pop music. Pop is inded a subgenre, but it's also an abbreviation for popular music. Aka pop punk, pop rock, pop trance etc. This is the pop i'm using.
Though I don't know what makes you so defensive in calling me some kind of elitist because I call a music pop music... |

Every single genre of music has had a Top 40 entry. If what you say is true, all music is pop music. Therefore making your use of the word totally pointless.
My point was that dance music is more commercially involved now than ever, yet trance remains one of the least commercially popular genres. |

Our discussion has more value and merit than endless lists of tracks because someone is too bloody lazy to develop their own musical taste. |

I hope you're not saying that's not the best trance song of all time... Just because its popular, you think it sucks... Well, the vocals are simply the best i've ever heard, and the bassline is the most original ive ever heard |
You're in' kiddin' right? No offense, but that cannot be the best trance ever and it is not the most original bassline. |

Exactly. Now, I'm not really into the genre of rock music and such... but I can say that all punk is not pop. Punk can be pop, though. Good Charlotte style bands... I'd say that's pop punk. But that doesn't make all punk pop. |

You're right there. :happy2: Like I've said before, these threads are pointless, as the only tunes listed are already overhyped. So really, what's the point? |

Yeah every genre has, but not every subgenre. So not totally pointless. And Dance only charts don't count. |

Almost every sub-genre. The number of sub-genres that haven't charted is much less than the number of sub-genres that have. |
