Yeah, I was going to say the same.
And, since we are on the subject of "chokes" anyone remember Australia vs Iran 2nd Leg of world cup qualifiers for the 1998 World Cup.
Text book example of sporting chokes ;) |

Scotland has never, and will never, win anything. England at least has a World Cup to its name and two semi finals in the Euro and another in the World Cup. England always has the talent to be able to possibly win a Championship. If it hadn't been for Brazil, England would have steamrolled through WC 2002 quite easily. The same in the 96 Euro...just bad luck against the Gerries, as in 90. And don't even get me started on Euro 2004. All you Scots know it was a ing goal. Even the Scottish announcer doing the telecast wanted to know what was wrong with it. |

ah yes, always find an excuse.
sure against brazil they were down to 10men for last 30 mins or so and you still performed . definitly didnt deserve to win that match. |

actually, the match was really a draw, save Seaman's up. Brazil never had any decent chances other than Rivaldo's goal, yet England couldn't muster any offense either. It would have gone to penalties had Seaman made that save.
Plus it was almost 40 degrees outside. Who does that favour? |

oh but ireland would of won the world cup if ian harte had scored the peno against spain in 2002.
Ireland havent won anything simply because they havent deserved too, except the triple crown last year which they did win.
stop coming up with excuses as too why your team was knocked out, it makes you look like a loser. just say admit you lost, without follwoing it with "oh we only lost becuase -insert excuse here-"
i also follow the spainsih league? does mean i am "pwn3d" twice? am i only allowed watch sports in which an irish team is involved?! that must be a new law that by-passed me
also using a word like "pwn3d" makes you look like a gimp. |

don't take this personally. That wouldn't be like an Irishman at all. You guys do tend to blame the Brits for everything.
But anyway, pwn3d is a humorous word, nothing more. At least England HAS won a major trophy and have come much closer to winning a few more than Ireland ever has. And if you knew the history of international football, you'd know England have been screwed more than once. England was the best team in the world in the 60s but choked in the 68 Euro semifinal..then were absolute crap after 1970. You don't think the Hand of God incident in 1986 was unfair?
Losing on penalties is always a ty way to win, but I admit England choke when faced with them. Sol Campbell has been robbed twice in 98 and just last year. Both his goals were legitimate and you know it. I'll never make excuses for 1988, 1992, 94 (didn't even qualify) or 2000. Those were England teams that didn't deserve to win anything. But the 86, 90, 96, 2002 and 2004 teams had the potential to go all the way. |

what else do we blame the "Brits" for? also this is a discussion about england, and not britain!
Compare the population of Ireland and England, that might give you a decent reason as too why we havent won a major trophy.
the year you did win the world cup, the 3rd goal never crossed the line, so that should never of been given and would of completely changed the course of the match.
against the argies in 2002 owen dived to win that peno, never should of been given. if i watch all the other match's i could nit-pick points like that, but i wont.
2002 ireland lost on peno's aswell, i could say they had the potential to go all the way, but they didnt. if they did they would of.
its just always funny when england enters world cup or euro championship the papers say they will win it etc etc, yet they always fall on their ass(well expect 66 of course, cant forget that one!).
the great thing about ireland is, we never have any expectations so whatever we achieve, thats IF we qualify, we celebrate it like mad! |

Oh Christ...not the third goal controversy again. The BBC and American programs have broken it down before to prove it DID cross the line by a fraction. Watch the highlight again. Besides, the fourth one went in quite emphatically. Have you watched the whole match? I have and England outplayed the Gerries completely. The second goal was a fluke. England were used to playing in their white jersies and the defender headed it right to a German playing in white in an admitted brain fart.
Owen dove my ass. He's not Portuguese, Brazilian or Italian. What if England go and win in 2006? Will you committ suicide? |
