Larry Smith...

To those that know him (or of him): Discuss... him, classroom experiences, his rants, his stories, whutever!
To those that don't... I feel bad (because he's the most fantastic and entertaining professor you could possibly have in the realm of Economics... I absolutely HATE econ, yet both my courses with him were FANTASTICALLY enjoyable and well worth it the 3 hours of night class every week... did I say three hours ? They sure as hell didn't feel that long... very minute (and EVERY minute was used!) was an honour!) Indeed, Larry Smith would NEVER dream of letting us out early ? Why you ask ? Because we paid to take his course and letting us out early meant we weren't getting full value out of the tuition we paid to take his course! He'd not hear of him "wasting" our tuition money. And guess whut he called any extra time he took ? "Bonus tuition" since we were getting more than we now paid for!:D GOD, I MISS hearing that term... bring on the bonus tuition, Larry! I can handle it!
The only other thing I have left to say is that we (myself and my UW friends that have also enlighted themselves with his courses), we will once or twice a term just go to one of his Tues. or Thurs. evening classes to just sit in and be entertained by his 'lecturing'!
He is an unforgettable and unmissable (<-- love that word!) experience at the University of Waterloo!
Cheers to Larry Smith, the man, the econ king, the legend, the... god (???) :D:happy2:
And, no, I am not a studyaholic or a even a model student... in fact I waste most my time that I should be studying... Id much rather get drunk or go to Guv... but Larry Smith really IS that good! |

WARNING! WARNING! DANGER! DANGER!
larry is da bomb... i used to go check out his "Weekly updates" even when i wasnt taking the class. i cant rememeber much of his famous lines, but there were a few hillarious (albeit sometimes un-PC)discussions like the "clubbing of the seals", rants about microsoft, yahoo, amazon etc.. and the like |

He is an amusing professor. But personally, I wasn't a big fan of his lectures.
1) His lectures are always 7 - 10, and I always have a problem concentrating at lectures after 8:30PM.
2) Talks too fast. Tells too many stories, which are obviously good examples of the material; but that's all they are just examples.
At the end of the day, I went to pretty much all the lectures, DIDN'T learn (my knowledge of economics is still at 0), and still got a B+. Big waste of my money.
Personally, I have a feeling that ppl like him cause he is amusing, rather than because he is an effective prof. |

Wouldnt be if Larry Smith was teaching it.
I had a different Econ prof before him and it was a complete snoozefest (i just HATE economics!!!!), but Larry makes it fun and entertaining... it starts to make sense! |

Larry is the man!
Classic Larry line (besides WARNING, WARNING, DANGER, DANGER :D), "for those of you who haven't been taking notes in the last 15 minutes, be prepared to fail next weeks exam!"
LOL!
Larry's ECON 220 Principles of Entrepreneurship course was amazing . We even had people sitting in the alise in the MC lecture halls.

So true - ECON 101 in DC, always packed! But since the MC lecture halls are kind of small Larry kicked the extra people out... LOL.
I another thing that was funny with Larry was when he drank his juice. He wouldn't drink anything throughout the entire lecture until a certain point when he would crack open his juice and down nearly the entire bottle in one gulp!
