So now the Government is going to tell you what kind of car you can drive (pg. 8)

I find both societies similar in a way.The U.S. preaches "democracy & freedom" worldwide & is trying to push Iraq into it when that part of the world has been "tribal" going back a thousand years.I'm not a history major but I do believe that the Roman Empire & its armies conquered vast areas to impose their way of life as well...
HAIL Ceasar aka Bush :nervous: |
Do you honestly place the USA's actions into the category of "conquering?" That's a pretty ignorant outlook... are we just going to excuse Iraq from everything they did as a precursor to this?
It's not like the USA is moving into Zaire or Paraguay to spread democracy... it's only in the Middle East, where the instability might actually pose a global (and therefore, local to Americans) threat. |

Mmmhm... and does the popularity of a belief make it correct?

Certainly not. But apparently that's what democracy is. :)
Good luck getting anyone to STFU on our differences. Such a topic border-lines on a religious feud.
Yes our culture and food are very similar. However as Canadians we are overly polite and totally insecure about our national identity. :P
Americans are brainwashed patriots who have very limited knowledge and interest about anyone outside their borders, and always looking for an evil enemy to validate their massive arms industry. Maybe it's small penis syndrome, who knows.
However we apparently are doing something right as some Americans encourage being mistaken for Canadians when abroad. (Wearing Canadian flags on their shirts and baggage). This is amusing to me as I see Americans as flag-waving, anthem-singing, and obsessively patriotic to the point of blindness when they are in their own country and have their fellow country men to back em up.
Another pet peeve of mine is how Americans like to bastardize the language by way of pronouncing and spelling words differently, but still seemingly calling it "English". Canadians are much closer to the original dialect.
</rant>
Anyway, enough of being a flamebait. I'm going to play some foosball now. :) |

As far as I'm personally concerned, I'd be perfectly content with the institution of legislation to put an end to automobiles for private citizens and crass libertarianism inside our sovereign borders.
Mind you, that's just me. :) |

Democracy is the tyranny of the ignorant.
But then again, nothing better is really a viable alternative right now. |

Or the curse of the complacent.
I miss our friendly dictatorship already. |

I support socialism to a degree, but it'll never be able to happen in a way that benefits Canada beyond what we have now. I like my public health care and education systems. Communism is a bit too far. It'll never work unless we program a robot to be the leader. |

A-ha - now if you wanted to use that as evidence that Americans are idiots, I would support you fully. :D |

The Americans are the smart ones. 9 times outta 10 they will get treated better if people think they're Canadians. The whole world hates America. Maybe the whole world are idiots. |

No matter how many times this phrase gets repeated, it will still not be true. This isn't a fact at all, it's just gibberish spouted by hippie liberals who can't come up with anything better for an argument.
The reason people have this illusion of the "whole world" hating America is that this "whole world" is only seen through the eyes of the mass media, which of course has always been a little bit left of center but in recent days has become very hard-left.
Most of the "respect" that Canada gets is based on misconceptions - politeness, "free" health care, and so on. |

The Romans conquered using their Legions and the U.S. is imposing their ideals on other countries by other means which in a round about way is a form of "conquering" is it not?...You need not go far back in history for evidence of U.S. meddling...Countries like Nicaraqua, Viet Nam & Panama(General Manuel Noriega was a CIA agent)
I don't see how you can say that is an "ignorant outlook" Aaron when you see what they've done the past 50 years.
I'm not being anti American here but DAMN I wish they would take a different course but unfortunatly the damage is done & now you have these religious zealots who will do ANYTHING to destroy the United States.Thats why I strongly believe (in my lifetime) that there will be a nuclear attack within their borders...most likely from a "dirty bomb" or biological attack.

| Of all the countries on the planet, there are like 3 or 4 that wanted Bush to win. Is the rest of the world all filled with liberals? Absolutely not. They're just not blinded by greed, pride, and nationalism like 70% of Americans are. |
