I don't get why all you nu skool ppl love to use the term EMD, you guys all sound like a bunch of EC ppl. (Electric Circus) IMO, the term EDM is pretty corny & chessey, just call it Electronic Muzuk.
This has been annoying me for awhile now. It honestly, sounds like some TOP 40 clubber term. |
It used to be just called "dance music" |

| Ill call it EDM occasionally. Usually I just refer to it as electronic music, or specify the genre. |

no no no
coming from a raver or an old skool party geor ... this term really sounds bad.
I hope I don't offend anyone here. |
Hey no worries, no offence taken. Just being a ballbuster. I do happen to agree that it sounds cheesy and n00b-like...even though I used the term myself the other day. |

| As bad as "EDM" is nothing beats "electronica" for cheesiness. |

| Electronica > EDM > Dance Music > Rave Music > Techno |

I think the term is good b/c it's desscriptive.
EDM is played in clubs, where as the broader term 'electronic music or electrinica the latter I dislike the most b/c it has the least descriptive qualitied, it basically means electronic in plural)
electronic music does NOT necessarily mean music that you would hear at a club/rave etc, electronic music can be completely experimental undanceable music, and therefore, the tem EDM has a purpose in terms of distinguishing between a genre of music that you woudl dance to and hear at a club vs music that is something completely different, that has a different purpose. I think b/c we listen to EDM when we hear 'electronic music' as a term we immediately jump to think of trance, DnB etc..
anyway.. my 2 cents. |

^^^^ right on!
Electronic music refers to something else, like Autechre, FSOL, Kraftwerk, etc etc... undanceable electronic music.
dance music refers to anything that you can dance to, nowadays, mostly pop and hiphop.
So EDM is the right term, thank you :) |
