so many clubs...if they play good music, and have the speakers accoustically set up properly, then it might have a chance.

Muzik Clubs Inc. has been given the go ahead to convert the Horticultural Building into an entertainment venue for concert and live music/nightclub performances operating throughout the year with a focus on Canadian talent. Muzik Clubs intends to begin internal renovations in November 2003, and will open for operation in the fall of 2004. It has contracted the architectural firm of Romanov and Romanov, who have extensive experience in the renovation and design of heritage buildings, to restore and improve this 100-year old building.

All the new clubs popping up, and the majority of the clubbing population seeming to age, I wonder if there is going to be a bit of a lull in business for a bit.

@ least a few year gap. There is next to no weekday events that are doing well the past 6 months, although the small ones that are seem to have the younger crowd and are mostly jungle/breaks events. Maybe it's a legacy of the old massives.. all those all-ages partiers are in their early 20's now.

I'm not sure the EDM crowd can pack these venues week in, week out. Perhaps they'll be a top 40 hybrid venue, like Republik seems to be moving towards with their Edge 10 night, plus EDM events.

Things can only get better with all the choices, but it will be interesting to see what venues are underground, which are mainstream, and who tries a balancing act. (and who's sucessfull)

i definately think they'll go with a hybrid lineup of sorts.. totally agree with the #'z thing in the electronic scene.. choices are great! by empty rooms aren't ..

I hope all the clubs succeed. It wasnt long ago where you could easily estimate that over 100,000 people were dancing somewhere in the city on any given saturday night. Now id say that number is down to 20,000-30,000.

I think clubs are re-inventing themselves because they have become stale in the last 5 years. Think about it, every club you go to now is radio music and snobby people with over priced drinks. BORING. Honestly the only good club left from the superclub era is Guv.

Thank God that people like Boa, Republik and Muzik are Toronto clubs that are stepping up to offer something new. Id like to see stuff happening in the burbs again like in the past. Viva is the only club left outside Toronto's borders that I woiuld go to now. I think that the drop in the number of clubbers is the silent majority that have said NO to hiphop. The secret is to convince that silent majority that clubs are fun again.

NOTE TO NEW CLUBS AND THEIR PROMOTERS: Make sure you aim most of your promotions at attracting NEW clubbing clientele because recycling clientele is not going to allow anyone to succeed. Id suggest hitting schools, malls, stores, queen st, bloor st, etc instead of trying to syphon off other club's clientele. That wont get anyone anywhere.

I have seen MUZIK and it is HUGE!!! The building damn near takes up a whole block:eek: The dome thingy at the top looks cool;)

I have no idea where the customers are going to come from to fill up a big place like that but they better get some good promoters and A LOT of them. Seems like finding good promoters is going to prove difficult because there are so many clubs both new and old and only so many promotion groups out there so I don't know if there will be crazy bidding wars or what over good promotion groups.

The bulding seems to be spread out into 3 or 4 sections (rooms) so I'm guessing its going to be a different genre of music in each.
