mp3 players

My MD player's kinda ed now and I'm thinking of joining all you cool people with mp3 players :p

So anyway, I want something not too expensive (like say, £100-150), at least 10GB so I've got plenty space (most of my music is at 192, lower bitrates sound crap to me) and generally, good. Oh and a mic and a line in would be nice, although not completely necessary if it costs a lot more.

Any recommendations?

Yeah I'm doing my own research too but a bit of help/personal opinions would be appreciated :)

Thanks

"The Minty MP3 player can be built from parts that are sold at Ye Olde Traditional electronics distributor (digikey/mouser/newark). Half of the parts can be sampled for free, for a minimal total cost of $25 for parts, and $25 for a PCB. And the case is soooo Minty!*"

I can only recomend what ive tried
I was in the situation as you not too long ago and i decided to get an Iriver HP-120 (after much consideration)
its got
-20 gigs
-line in/out
-mic recorder
-FM tuner
-no software needed to connect with pc, which means its great for file backups too if need be
-plays a variety of codecs including ogg

would also recomend the creative zen micro, those things are dead sexy

I'm planing to carry my laptop with me to uni so i figure i don't need one of the hard drive players cos i can always transfer songs to the mp3 player from my lappy. So I'm thinking a little mp3 player that i can use as a USB storage device... with probably no more than 1gig. I did a bit of googling and the iaudio U2 looks pretty cool, but its a bit pricey.

thats the main problem with flash based players, they are the most expensive per megabyte
a 512 or even 256 meg may be an option
considering u will be near your mp3 source all the time
are you really going to listen to one gig of music in one go?
a huge plus for flash based mp3 players is size and great for going to gym or running since they wont skip like some HD based players

Good point. I'm also thinking of using it to keep backup copies uni work though, which can take up a bit of space.

And another thing.. has anyone noticed it's harder to get good deals on stuff like this on ebay now. People are bidding items upto and sometimes even over what you can buy a brand new item for with warranty.

You could more or less tweak the design to build one inside anything you want. A friend suggested a pair of headphones, and Im thinking of the proposed idea of a removable IDE Drive for a car stereo.

Interested in working the design of this smaall one a bit too. I was thinking of the tin cases AOL sends their cd's in. A possible idea is to make it look like a cd player with its hinges, but inside, have another cover hiding the elctronics Possibilities for the internal cover renge from designs to additional button optiona\s, to a more detailed LC telling what is playing or other things.

Im ammassing the parts for the small one now just to see if I can do it.

Sounds awesome dude, make sure you post pics when you get around to doing it.

I have a Creative MuVo NX 128mb

Love it to death, and came at a great price.

At first, I loved MD, but I slowly began to hate Sony's bad software, and how it could take 20 minutes to make a 200mb MD because of their dumb ing Atrac3 encoding.
