Man, I really don't want to touch this one with a 10-foot pole, but here goes...

I've been living in Texas for almost a year. Before that, I lived in Washington DC, Los Angeles, Oakland, & San Francisco.

I've travelled to Germany, Czech, Denmark, Britain, France, Belgium, Guatemala, & Mexico.

what can I say about Texans? They are as nice, friendly, normal, & welcoming, IF NOT MORE SO than any other place I've lived.

From column a--Mexicans are nice people.

from column b--at least they don't have pasty white legs in shorts like the British.

and for Column c--the hicks--if you want to see hicks, go 2 hours outside of LA to San Bernadino County, California, home of trailer park meth labs. Where I was warned to carry a gun if I wanted to go hiking.

Honestly, Texas is a beautiful place with cool, laidback people.

To be fair, that's only cos you associate rather unpleasant things with that accent.

okay i lived in texas for 5 yrs. (5 yrs old till 10 yrs. old) i thought it was and still to this day think it's the most horrible place in the world. the weather sucks, the allergies there are horrible and the school systems suck. now i have met some cool people from texas but it's someplace that isn't really on my place to visit possibly.

There's stereotypes to almost any state though. I think the main thing about Texas is that the media you're exposed to mostly stems from old "Dallas" reruns and "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure". Instead of actually coming here and chilling with us, they just formulate opinions based on what others have experienced.

I'm not going to lie though. Texas is full of rich, closed-mined, anal-retentive jackasses...but as in any state there a lot of good people that would stop and help you fix a flat tire if you needed it.

When you say "Mexicans", do you mean immigrant workers which came to this country to work for a better life, which some are from other Latin American countries...Americans of Mexican descent (such as myself, but you can call me Chicano or just Dave)...or Latinos which include Panamanians, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Colombians, and other Non-Mexican citizens. I think most people see brown skin and just assume they are Mexican because they're lazy and don't know any better.

There is such a thing as South America and last time I checked...Mexico was in North America.

I blame pop culture for stereotypes. The same culture that taught us to call Packer "Roo-boy" when we met him, or made us look at Ferry Corsten's feet to see if his shoes were wooden is the same that makes you think we all ride horses and have large boots and hats. It makes you think I speak Spanish (I don't) and probably swam the Rio Grande to get here.

Its a culture of ignorance and resistance to knowledge.

You ever wanna see it for yourself and bust those myths about us, come on down and we'll show you a good time. Those stereotypes only represent the dregs of society here.
