Wow guys! There is some serious talent in these forums! I was told of them by a friend, man was he right... :) Well anyway, I am using Reason 2.5 but am looking to upgrade to using cubase with vst's because of the flat sound of reason. Check out my tunes if you'd like, any feedback is welcome. Keep up the good work guys!

hi dude. reason doesnt have to sound flat.. ive heard tracks made on reason that sound insane. i still use it quite a bit
Leifo
I see. I find that if I eq it too much it gets tooheavy and uncrisp, but if i dont eq it enough, I have to really compress the crap out of it to make it sound full. Any tips?
Mike_Foyle
using a different sequencer wont change that. you just have to practice getting your eqs/levels right. everyone always complains about their final mixes never being "loud enough" but thats why people end up with ty clipping, dirty sounding tracks, coz they pump them up or compress the out of them, which totally destroys the quality. id say just keep the levels way low, then if u really want it to sound louder, turn the volume up on your amp lol... or eq it well enough that the frequencies are devided nicely over the spectrum and you dont get many clashes, then u can get away with having it louder with out it clipping.
Leifo
Well, I wasn't commenting on the loudness. I was commenting on the sound of the synths. For example, my friend just bought teh Vanguard vst. It just SOUNDS crisper, even without eq'ing. I'm sure you can get the same effect out of reason, however I've been using it for a couple years now, and if i haven't figured it out by now... get me? Call me lazy or stupid if you will, I just can't get it. That's why i was asking for tips! Hey, but thanks for your advice! I appreciate it!

If you want synths to sounds better in Reason, add Scream 4, and then Choose the setting "MasterCompression" Then EQ the synth some more with Scream 4. (There's a little equalizer there) Also, add "Kick Bomb"-Reverb to it to make it sound fat. And now, the most important thing. Delay. Add 4 normal delay-boxes to the synth. Then set them to these settings:

DelayBox---Step---Feedback--Pan---Dry/Wet
1----------1------10--------L-----20
2----------2------10--------R-----20
3----------3------10--------L-----16
4----------4------10--------R-----16

This should spice up the synth a bit ;)

Another tip to get the sound clean in Reason: Always turn all the high-freq-knobs on the main mixer to around 30. And hey, as Foyle said, it's all about trying to speard frequenzies all over the soundspectre, and don't have lots of things playing at the same frqequenzie. And finally, it all comes down to the quality of the sound you're using. And there I have to agree that Cubase and FL deliver much cleaner sounds!!

Leifo
Holy crap! Alexpea, you really have a formula for it eh? I have a sick day today so I'm trying you what you said as I write this. Wow it sounds great! Thanks alot for the advice! How long have you been using reason? Also, yes abuot FL and cubase. The Audio engines are much better. Honestly, I just plain out don't like the subtractor anymore :)

Sirocco and Trancinchink we should hook up! PM me!
I'm gonna go check out your (guys's?) previous posts and see what ur songs are like. :)

born and raised in marlboro.
reason user.

try tripling up on your synths. abuse a high end BP filter on a malstrom sawtooth.
if you like reason and want more sounds, get some refills or get some samples from your friends hardware. analogue night sounds like a friggin big fat friggin train.
