If you have a pII, its fast enough, the program runs at idle priority, which means it only uses free cpu cycles. |

time for me to doing some serious explaining.
I think Cancer is a good thing. With population as it is, disease and things like cancer are natural orders of the world. so I dont think that we should be searching for a cure. I think that instead of trying to cure the 'disease' we should focus on improving the quality of life for those who are affected. Pain management of what, but I think cancer is good.
I know people who have died from it, I will probly get it(being a fair skinned, red head with a history of skin cancer) and maybe ill even die from it, but that wont change my convictions.
So, unfortunately I wont be helping the cure for cancer. |

I will try to justify this further, but its not that I am wishing cancer on anyone.
In the span of a day, the human body prolly gets cancer about 4 times, but the immune system will kill off the rapidly dividing cell body before a tumor makes it a serious issue. You also have to think about how a long time ago everyone died of 'natural causes' but more and more, people are dying of cancer. Is this because cancer is becoming more prevalent? Hardly, it just being diagnosed more and more, and often treated to a certain degree. Disease is also a way to keep a population in check. The human species is the only animal species that continuously multiplies without regard for resources, nature or any other living thing, so disease is inevitable. Through technology, I believe that we will still continue to thrive and prosper, without a major plague or the like. I would even venture to say that just about everyone will at least get, or die of some form of cancer...its inevitable. I know it sounds grim, but its a fact of life, although research is one of our most valuable tools in, as j_spot says, making people living with disease more comfortable, and -possibly- curing something in the process! I hope this makes sense and isnt too depressing...late/ |

ok, so there, Biznology got it a bit better than I did.
finding a cure for cancer could be conceived as being selfish or greedy, whereas the people who want to let the natural order be, would be the selfless ones.
I will die. If its cancer @ 30, a crash @ 22 or whatever, im gonna go sometime. The rest of the world might as well benefit from my death. |

well, i don't have much time now so i might post a better response later...
Well, I know what you guys are talking about, so I understand your viewpoint... I even took a geography class back in OAC that focussed on these sorts of issues.. but, I would just think it would be nice if some of the people that I was close to didn't pass away so early because of cancer :(
anyway, it's your opinion and I'm fine with that.. like i said though, I have more to say about this but i can't write it now.

| well i dissagree witt spot and biznology, the way i see it is we should try and find cures for all diseases and like that, and if we can cure cancer and then the population starts to overflow, strict birth control laws will have to come into action, sounds silly but same as going to ur local authority and asking for planning permission to build something, here, asking the law if u can have a baby, sounds silly yeah, but that way we keep the pop down and no1 has to sit in a hospickle bed for the next 20 years suffering with pain because we didnt want to cure there disease incase of a population overflow, sounds easy to say, but imo, curing diseases and then adding birth control limits would keep everyone happy, and spot and biznology, its easy to say its natures way of keeping the population down and blah, but ur not the ones sitting in a hospickle bed terminally ill in constant pain, if you urself had cancer, i wonder if ur views on curing ur disease would be the same. |

When the Nazis came to the door of the jews, and asked if they were jewish, what do they say? Did they have the strenght to die or be punished for their beleifs? Im sure some did, and some didnt
I hope to consider myself one of those who has the power to keep my convictions should I be afflicted by Cancer, or AIDS or whatever.
I know, Nazis to cancer is a bit of a stretch, but hey. Its not that far. I have a grandmother who barely talks to me because of what I believe. She was stricken with Cancer, and when they decided to treat with radiation, even though she was in poor health at the time and was a burden to everybody around her, they decided to proceed. It worked, the cancer went away, and now she burdens everybody even more than before. Life shouldnt be that way. If you cant sustain for yourself..im sorry, but just pass old.
Why do we kill horses once they break a leg? cuz they cant help themselves. My grandmother is the same way, as im sure some of you out theres. whatever..im getting on a rant.
Quality of life. Thats what its all about to me. |
