I think that this is not new. Something similar is done with the research of extraterrestial life.
Anyway, now I am going to download the console and put the computer to calculate.
This issue will be a remember for me of the university lectures of Biochemistry. |

i don't know what's wrong with jlosada's machine. firewall?

I don't think that there are firewall problems.
I do the next things:
1.- Download the v.2.15 of the console graphical client.
2.- Close all the software and restart my computer.
3.- Run the setup software and set my name as jlosada.
I click on the icon of the software and the next message is shown: (Translated from spanish to english)
"WinFAH has generated mistakes and will be closed by windows. You must rerun the program. It will be created an error register."
I configure the team number ID to 351 and click on the icon and the same message is displayed.
What can I do? |

well first i would try uninstalling it....
try re-downloading it (maybe there is the chance you downloaded for the wrong version of windows...)
then try re-installing it.... :)

Finally I have decided to use the non-graphical console (only text). I can't view what my machine is calculating but I can participate in this research.
I don't know how to configure the console with my name and the group, but I don't mind; I don't take it as a competition. |

| Damn, I totally forgot I had this program running in the background (for some reason XP shuns the F@H icon from the system tray)... well, unfortunately I can't see those proteins either! :p I should start getting faster machines to work on these - I've been chugging along at such a slow pace. Good news is that we're approaching rank #100... :D |

we've been at #113 for over a week now... i've been following it...
seems like the 112 teams in front of us are going strong as well...
plus my #2 machine is down (ABTsportsline_(tranceaddict.com)) .... down for service ... :( so we just lost a very productive machine.
oh well, i know its not a "real" competition.... but i like to look at it as that.. makes it more fun! I am constantly checking on the proteins and the like... it fascinates me how we've created ALL these proteins, (not including the thousands of others by the other groups), and they STILL haven't found what they're looking for.... really puts this all into perspective.
great experience! i wish we had more people...

Me too! I think stickies don't get read as often as bumped up threads, so people aren't interested in what this thread offers... oh well...
With respect to competition, it is definitely a good way to look at it - cuz in the long run, it encourages more productivity from the users, which means more proteins being folded :D |
