Look at NY, London, Budapest, or any MAJOR city in their respective countries. Their subway system is there to get you around quickly, and efficiently. The TTC just gets you around. This city needs at least 2 more lines. And extend the Bloor line closer to Sauga.

Im not denying the fact that it doesnt require improvement, and that there arent systems superior, but that we could be A LOT worse. We take far too much for granted. If more ppl took the TTC they could afford to spend more, the gov't would dish out more... its a cyclical effect, people dont ride as its not the best, and the gov't doesnt fund what it should as too many people ride cars.

Comparing marginal utility, the TTC have a far greater value than driving downtown. I dont get road rage in the TTC, I get where I want in virtually the same time and save a bundle of money.

It would be incredibly stupid to run a line at a major cost just so some club goers can get home... they had enough money to waste on the luxury of booze then they can afford a cab, or wait for the vomit commit like everyone else.

how about shift workers? or people who work in the entertainment industry? Not everyone works 9 to 5. I wish those who run the transit system would realize this. I own a car for precisly this reason.

[quote[The Washington dc line is great??? Smoke crack much? I think it’s really wonderful that the touristy areas have these plush buses you talk of, but for the working person in that city they have a non-existent line. The system is not safe and doesn’t provide near the service in the areas of wealth. But I’m sure you’ve lived in the luxury of having money and not being a minority faced with environmental racism... [/quote]

Environmental racism???? AHAHAHAHAHHA now i think ive heard it all. I didnt realize the environment was a race!

While we may not have the greatest system, we still have a great system. It could be MILES worse, we really have nothing to complain about… but of course it’s so typical for those that live in excess to be unsatisfied and continue to take at the expense of the poor.

When i have the choice between owning a car and being able to rely on transit i will stop complaining.

When the city stops treating me like a criminal because i dont happen to work 9 to 5 and i need a car or choose to use a car i will stop complaining.

When people like you live in the real world i will stop complaining

Do you even live in Toronto?

The TTC is packed wall to wall all the time!

The problem is that the federal and provincial governments give virtually no money to support the TTC.

That and the TTC as an entity is pretty wasteful as well

You also have to take into account city size.

Washington DC is apparently 177 km^2.
Toronto is 641 km^2.... so more than 3.5x as large... that's a hell of a lot more subway to go "everywhere".

More Subways for Toronto proper and more regular and direct commuter trains from here to hamilton, bowmanville, and barrie along with reliable and efficient local bus services to pick up the passengers in their suburban locales. Why buy a car so u can drive it 10 mins to the train station and park it in a football field sized lot to take the train? Kind of defeats the whole purpose to me!

*honk honk*

I'm a surviver.

I take the TTC every single day to work and school: both are downtown and I live on the westend of the city. Numerous times I've been late because, as usual, there's a delay on the subway.

Or, during rush hour (3-6) the TTC is a ing joke.

Actually, it refers to the fact the predominantly ethnic communities get dumped on all the time, such as Africville in Nova Scotia. In this sense, the bad areas of Washington get the tail end of the transit service. While the TOURISTY areas with MONEY get the benefits of the system, it comes at the cost of the poor. Poorer area's, which in the states are usually ethnic areas, always are the victims of the richs greed.

As for do I live in Toronto, I used to live in North York, but moved to Peterborough 2 years ago, but constantly visit. I had to go from Bayview and Sheppard to King and Duffrin almost every day for work when I lived in Toronto, and can say I have no complaints with the system. When I visit I park my car every time.

The TTC gets packed at time... OMG thats terrible, I bet the clubs you go to are empty just so you can rule your dance floor.

I dont live in the real world??? Excuse me what??? Just because Im not a spoilt little brat???

StereoPrincess
some one mentioned Salt Lake City transit system.

i was there 2 years ago and the system is awesome. it's free to take it downtown and the trains are really new and fancy. not only that but you can simply walk to anywhere important if you live downtown.

i cant get home after work with transit and that is a fact. Yes im treated like a criminal. Millions spent on traffic calming devices, potential tolls, road systems designed to make life more difficult for motorist etc etc all tell me so

great if u happen to live near a line. Try getting anywhere in the suburbs at that hour (where many people live)

you are right i am spoiled. You see im one of those evil spoiled car owners that people like you hate. But what you dont realize is that i dont want to be an evil spoiled car hater. But unfortunately the current state of affairs when it comes to city transit forces me to be one.
