| Ok so I join this trance addict site and so many people dig the progressive scene, house or trance. Now trance dj's are morphing into progressive DJ's. Don't get me wrong I enjoy progressive elements in sets but trance is banging and melodic and never gets old. Am I just an electronic rookie who hasn't evolved yet? Max Graham, Nick Warren, people eat their music up, but I just don't get it. Someone fill me in. |

Pretty much everyone starting off loving the uplifting epic etc type tracks. Then they were introduced to progressive and it took them in a different direction. Your time will come.
Then there are those who wanna disassociate themselves from the cheese & bull that has filtered into the uplifting scene. |

hehe, I am one of those morphed ones... :)
I will always have a soft spot for Epic, and still enjoy it every once
and a while...but I guess I got a little tired of the constant buildup's, explosions...buildup's explosions, over and over.
I love progressive. I eat it for breakfast lunch and dinner. I listen to it in my car every second that I am in it, and spin progressive every chance that I get.
Peace,

...whether or not you evolve into a progessive-lover could possibly depend on what originally attracted you to epic trance in the first place.
For me it was the pumping rhythm AND the beautiful melodies that evoke EMOTIONS...in epic trance, in my opinion, you find a perfect balance between the two, rhythm & melody.
I don't find such a balance in any other style of music. For that reason, I don't see myself evolving into a progressive-lover.

i will always have a weakness for the gorgeous melodic buildups, but they're just too much for me these days. too cheese.
i've become converted to the subtlety, the mellow groove of progressive. |

Trance got me into the electronic music, but i've loved progressive for over 5 years now. I like it more than trance coz its darker, more percussion and has a moodier feel. :) I just check tranceaddict coz they got a lot of good reliable event dates posted. Most of "great" "trance" djs have realized that more people are leaning towards the progressive side and have started to jump the progressive bandwagon, which is pathetic.......... I mean you can never compare PVD to John Digweed can you ? :P

Like most people, I started out loving uplifting/epic trance and I still do. I still play this genre (along with progressive + deep) when I spin at clubs and parties.
Over the past few months I have come to really appreciate some of the amazing progressive and deep trance tunes being produced. They have their own magical quality to them. Not as blatently uplifting as some of the great tunes we have come to love but still have their own subtle uplifting elements that sometimes tend to creep on you and blow you away. I agree with Viceroy 100% that the contiuous flow of huge buildups and in your face uplifting elements can tend to get to be a bit much when they are played one after another. This is where progressive come in.
Like ALL music and as with progressive, there are so many different types of this genre out there waiting to be heard. I remember a few years ago the first few trance tracks I heard I didnt like at all and thought that I didnt like this form of music. It took a while for people to show me different types of trance tunes for me to find the types of trance I liked. I beleive this is the same for progressive. At first I didnt understand why people liked this genre and then I started to download more music and heard different styles and then BAM it hit me and my love for progressive started =]. Im not saying progressive is for everyone, but give it time, maybe one day you'll find a great track you love and your appreciation will change. =]
Right now, blending progressive with uplifting tunes is the way I spin. I LOVE IT!! =]
