I'm not a PvD bandwagon rider, I'm mainly into his sets :)

I laugh because I really find Tiesto boring now, minus his Just Be album.

Cheers. Also your favourite tune. Mine too. It's an absolute classic. Five years on and nothing's moved it from the top of my tunes list.

I met him in December 2004 and I have to agree that he is very down to earth and cool. He also mentioned how a lot of you do nothing but bash the guy, I agreed, but also let him know that since he's at the top he has no choic but to get used to the shots that are always going to get thrown at him.

Anyways, I seriously need to go to Holland and party. :D

It's not just because he's "on top". Just curious, but did people bash Sasha when he was "on top" in 2000 (I think that was when he won the DJMag contest)? Or Digweed in 2001? I really don't know, I wasn't around back then.

I see you're from Toronto? I was born there, living in Ireland for the past 15 years but going back by the end of the year. What's the scene like?

As for Holland, oh my God it's class for clubbing. You HAVE to go to Dance Valley. 50,000 people, 120 DJs, thirteen hours (last year). It's a two-dayer this year. Gonna be crazy. Booking tickets as soon as they are out next month. I highly recommend. Hopefull Tiësto will be back this year. He did 2001 and 2003 so maybe he skips every 2nd year.

Around then you had Oakey in Muzik magazine saying he was the biggest DJ in the world. Can't remember him getting as much stick as Tiësto but I was only into the scene since 1999 so wasn't too sure of everything back then.

As for Sasha, all I remember was critical acclaim for the guy. A lot for Digweed too. Then again they weren't what Tiësto is today in terms of merchandising, remixing, sheer amount of live sets etc. In other words they didn't have the same exposure as Tijs has today.

Well it is because he's on top mainly because of the exposure he has compared to previous winners.

Years ago (I've been into trance since about 98',99') you could have mentioned the mixmag winner or asked about him and people would ask you what the hell you were talking about.

Now, especially in an area with such a ty scene, if you mention Tiesto you will get a plethora of answers from people of all ages from "yeah the guy who played the olympics" to "he's the #1 dj in the world!" to "i love traffik". To an area that didn't even know what trance was for the most part, now everyone and their dog know who Tiesto is.

It doesn't change their musical knowledge though, most still assume that all tracks he plays live are his own and that all the mislabeled mp3s they got from magik and ISOS cds are all his tracks

I'd have to agree with you on this one. He is very overexposed. Still think he's brilliant though. And I've been into him since I started with trance in '99. My first trance single was by him. Gouryella. Oh the good old days!!!
