A media oddity

I have seen reports on tv and read stories in the newspaper about the shooting at Plaza Flamenco nightclub on Sat. The odd thing is that i have yet to hear the name of the club mentioned in the media! The shooting actually happened INSIDE the club and hurt 2 people. Meanwhile if this had happened outside of a dance club considered afterhours by the media you can bet the name would have been splashed around the media like crazy. I remember stories about people getting killed 2 hours after being anywhere near an afterhours and the media was quite liberal about saying exactly where they had been.
This just goes to show the media's bias and how they try and twist stories to whip people into a frenzy. If this had happened at an afterhours and not a latin club theyd be all over it and the name of the club would be in tatters.
maybe there are stories out there where the name was mentioned but havnt seen one yet. |

| It doesn't have to be an afterhours for it to be mentioned. Many clubs have had their share of unwanted publicity that havent been afterhours. |

But my point is that a Latin club is more media friendly and doesnt get people all worked up like mentioning an afterhours or a dance club. |

| I don't get it....I've watched the news & they HAVE mentioned "Plaza Flamingo" & even showed the front of the club on video:conf: |

they didnt mention it when i saw it.. they showed the club and thats how i know where it was but they never mentioned the name.
The most i heard was "a latin club on college" |

I just saw on CTV News at noon & they mentioned "Plaza Flamingo". |

| I recall the first story or two online for the Star about it didn't give the name but provided the exact address. |

Jayx1, thou I agree the media can be bias and do like to alarm the public b/c it sells papers... I don't think that is the case here.
Also, something for you to note...there is such a thing called "ban of publication" where either the the police or the family's lawyer (of those injured) may request to protect a current ongoing investigation. |

On the opposite foot, there were 4 stabbings NYE at the PVD/ Jon O'bir party in NYC, and not one news report even mentioned it was inside a club, let alone the name of the club. They just eluded that some stabbings took place on such & such street. Odd, huh?
Guess it can happen both ways. |
