least commercials? heh yeah right... every 25 minutes there was a commercial break... it may feel like less commercials to you since most stations go one 50 minutes and then take a long commercial break.. Party 931 divided the commercials, so it felt like you were getting less, but you were actually getting the same amount.

The late-night mixes are what made Party world famous, but the general audience isn't going to be up all night listening to the radio. A lot of the listeners probably didn't even know there were good late-night shows.

Party wasn't doing too well (I don't need to go into that again), so in a desperate attempt to make more money and sweep up the rock audience Zeta had lost, they became 93 Rock.

It's not that Miami doesn't like dance music. It's that Party 931 was playing a crappy dance format, ignoring most current dance hits for oldskool freestyle and pop remixes, playing the same 10 songs over and over again, and lack of radio DJ/MCs. Listening to party 931 was like having a jukebox... it gets boring after awhile.. and that annoying voice grr.. I'd rather hear some Y-100 DJ nagging about Britney's boobs than the same prerecorded voice saying "PPParty 931 South Florida's PURE dance Channel" after every song.

Furthermore, putting down stations that don't even have the same format as you is no professional way to convert listeners from their stations to yours. Of course when a station is new, they're going to play less commercials than everybody else. As the station ages, they play more and more commercials till they're like everybody else.

Also, the strong gay support on Party 931 could have also cut down on its ratings. I'm not a homophobic person, but there are a lot out there in Miami. Once the station started openly supporting gays and having gay talk radio, you were automatically labeled a queer for listening to the station. A lot of my homophobic friends stopped listening to Party because of that.

:haha: I love how you said "PPParty 931 South Florida's PURE dance Channel" LMAO :haha:

but I agree with you on this 100%
the ONLY thing that MADE the station was the GDJB and Nocturnal Sessions...but look at the times of those shows...
NS- Saturdays 3-5 AM
GDJB- SUNDAY NITE/MONDAY MORNING- 1-5 AM
nooooooooo way many people stayed up for that (or even knew of it)...I loved both and I listened to NS more because it was on a weekend but the GDJB I had to put it on to go to sleep because I had to wake up early the next morning, its not as if I could have stayed up listening to it.
If they changed their format, as you stated, they would have made it...at least have a DJ and PLAYING real DANCE music not a bunch of crap over and over...and most of it was not dance music it was cheesy remixes. I remember 107.1 lol it sucked because they just played CDs, but at least better music was being played and it was alot more successful than 93.1 and 107.1 was an underground station. SAD.

Could we have been better off without Party 931 ever existing?

I think there's a possiblity. After Party hurling insults at other stations, playing crappy pop remixes and passing them off as real dance music, supporting gays to the point that it felt like you had to be gay in order to like dance music.

Party could have possibly ruined the potential growth of EDM, I don't know maybe that's just me, but I feel dance music has a lot less respect locally ever since Party came on the scene.

agreed again! Honestly the only thing I got from it was the two Free 4th of July bashes...I got to see PvD & Tiësto for free and also NS and GDJB. I know GDJB will continue through the web and NS will probably be gone but it's not like Edgar doesn't spin at venues.
The funny thing is that they started out...no commercials and they played and I'm afraid to say this, SOMEWHAT better music when they first began :nervous: then as time passed, it turned into the biggest cheesefest...even more than when they first started...when if you think about it, shouldn't they have gotten better with time. The gay radio show was completely absurd because WTF do gays and EDM have to do with each other...big loss of reputation there...also it sort of puts people who listen to REAL EDM to shame, it's leading for people to label us homosexuals. I am not in the least bit homophobic but it was a bad call on their part. I wouldn't even say they played the same 10 songs over...more like 5 songs. I don't think any of those people know what it takes to run a REAL EDM radio station besides I don't even think it's possible without the cheese spreading over the cracker.
I'm glad to be honest...it gave dance music a bad name (exception: NS and GDJB)
oh well I have my CD's!

well gay people did have a part in EDM... they invented house and garage... so they deserve their props, but Party abused the props and went over the top.

DURING DAY TIME RADIO (where little kids are listening), this bull was on the commercials...

*queer accent* "Come to Cupid's Cabaret... ALL NUDE BOYS ALL NIGHT LONG.. bla bla bla come watch the Cupidz men dance nude to the hottest beat in town"
limin_li
Commerical Dance music works in daytime. Otherwise, how did they last for 3 years running. I hear alot of complains on TA saying how 103.5KTU was being cheesey radio station or Energy 92.7 and 5. Not alot of people has respect for Commerical Dance Music. If a bunch of TA wanted to create nice radio station, you guys have to have cheese to survive in the Radio business. It was risky enough for people in COX, Big City Radio, and Entravision to put out a Dance Station such as Party 93.1. Try to ask Clear Channel or CBS/Infinity Broadcast to put on Dance station in your neck of woods, see what happenes, they would laugh at you. The downfall of Party 93.1 from the way I looked at, they lost the live broadcast priviage in Space, secondly, the over played tracks in the daytime, thirdly scheduling mix shows should've of been little different.

it's not that commercial dance doesn't have respect... Party was ignoring all the current european chart topping dance tunes for old freestyle and top40 pop remixes.

first off Gerry and fallingmoon hit it right in the head with all the reasons why Party had lost its appeal. They pointed out the one thing that really annoyed me which was all the gayness that station had, listening to all that fag crap really turned me off to the radio station,It gave us real EDM straight guys a bad name.
freestyle was ok, i grew up listening to that stuff , but it was being overplayed. I remember when Party began they actually played some trance tracks during the day, but the last couple of years like you guys say notin but pop remixes.I basically stop listening to party except for Acostas Sunday night show (GDJB was on way to late there was no way in hell Id stay up because I have to go to work and school on monday, and the guy played nothing but prog, pefect to get people to sleep on a sunday night....) In my car I would just listen to CDs

as for the rock..Just like Party I stopped listening to Zeta too because all that new rock they were playing sucked, its gotten so bad in rock that there are chicks now that have deeper voices than the guys, and all the bands guitar sounds sound the same now. rock 93 whatever its called now is actually playing good rock and metal now, but Im scared that just like party when it went to purely pop remixes ,rock 93 will go back to whats considered "new popular rock old zeta crap",which I can already feel its way coming.

This whole Party failure is a good lesson on how not to run a dance station. If we TA's can make a station knowing the past mistakes Im sure we can have success.Get newbies to listen to what is real EDM and losing the gayness perception they might have of it.

This is truely a threat to the edm community for South Florida - :sadgreen:

Global DJ Broadcast...I had many fond nights, and reading many great chat transcipts, with Tigerclaw, Mdamon, even Markus sometimes as he popped in. Chatting a bit with a few of the guest DJ's, and reviewing each song that was being played, while dissecting each instrument/synth. *Sighs*

Those were the days...I'll be pumping all of my favorite EDM CD's...I'll be blasting EDM out of my speakers, with my windows down while driving. RIP party 93.1...loved the July 4th concerts. :( Goodbye. -Mental

Couldn't have said it better myself. Don't know much about the rock scene and what's good or not so I cant judge ZETA and 93 Rock for myself.

Party wasn't all that hot when it started tho. If you liked hearing Sylver - Turn The Tide every hour, then maybe it was good for you. I'd rather hear Traffic every other hour than that song. Party had some way played out club anthems when it started, so I wasn't a satisfied listener since the beginning. Right before they left, they were playing some good current tracks but that was only 10% of what they played. So I guess you could say it was better when it started.

Acosta eh.. no comment

Prog puts you to sleep? o_0 I think it's good stuff for dancing anyway... keeps me up.. I'll be honest that Paul Oakenfold show puts me to sleep. Sometimes he'd play a badass tune then mix it in with some boring ass Madonna remix.

yeah? says who? It could be a good thing... the death of Party prevents EDM from being too gay. Now EDM is going underground again... that's good... if Party were around for 10 more years, acting as stupid as they did, dance music would probably be the queerest to listen to.

From what I'm listening y-100 is including more dance music in their format... I wonder if Power96 has anything in mind. If the "Cool" stations pick up EDM, than EDM will be "cool" again. I wouldn't be surprised if power96 didn't after all the party 931 said about them. What goes around comes around. I bet the power96 staff is sitting there having a big gloatfest.

One of the reason for the downfall of the station is the scheduling of the mix shows, Something I always had issues with cause its always on so late, then I have to sleep all morning and getting up in the afternoon missing most of my day, The shows would've been better of if they started at the 8:00pm est times rather then 12:00am.
gerrycueto
yeah the mix shows were great... there should be a mix show radio station :P

Global DJ Broadcast 107.1fm all GDJB all the time :)
