Europe has probabbly the richest culture in the world...it goes much further back (in time), it's much more developed, and there's simply a lot more of it. Some of the oldest cultures are from the far east (japan, china, and etc...)

But overall he's pretty much correct.

See I have to agree with Halo here on this one...I hate this stupid question of nationality....your nationality is Canadian if you're a Canadian citizen and youre BACKGROUND is of something else.

Unless of course you're a national of a different country. So for example...I have Canadian and Israeli citizenships but if I go traveling somehwere and someone asks me where i'm from I'll obviously say Canada and that I'm Canadian....what my background is, is a complitely different story.

I hate it when i'm talking to someone on MSN or whatever they go with some STUPID nicknames such as HOT ITALIAN or PORTUGUESE or something blah...meanwhile they were born in Canada and have never stepped foot in Portugal and Italy...YOU ARE CANADIAN YOU FOOL! And then they ask me what nationality I am... :p

So in StereoPrincess' case, I guess she's like me - I'm Isareli-Canadian but if someone asks me nationality i'd say Canadian...I hate all those fakers. If you are are only a Canadian citizen YOU ARE CANADIAN!

when i travelled across Europe and people asked me where I was from I told them I was Canadian. I was then often told that i don't 'look' Canadian, i then further elaborated on my 'background', to which they then got the point. i can see Crazy Serb's point about not feeling Canadian since he lived a large part of his life out in Serbia and was born there, so too was StereoPrincess respectively with Poland. I can't see me calling myself anything other than Canadian since I was born here and lived my whole life here. if I someday emigrated to another country I doubt that I would be able to disassociate my Canadian origins so easily much like other people who have moved to Canada.

so it's understandable for a landed immigrant to feel this way, but i agree that I think it's kind of stupid when someone born here tries to flaunt themselves as being something based solely on their cultural background - i don't see that as being any less patriotic however unless they denounce Canada altogether which I feel would be extremely dumb. but then again who are we to say what national identity one should choose? you might think someone's stupid for saying something, but at the same time u can't force them to associate themselves as being something else either. however i don't feel that this 'issue' is necessarily only a Canadian one, i think u'll find it apparent in any society where you have a large cultural mosiac of people who have immigrated from various parts of the world and have been able to maintain their own seperate nationalistic communities.

patiently waits for a long ass jayx1 post

European lifetsyle is defiantely the best :). But i think the warmest cultures are mediteranean/middle eastern. Go to lebenon, Syria, Egypt Armenia, Iran... they make you part of their family

I miss ibiza :(

Mediteranian is mostly southern Europe by the way.

And I'm sure a total white guy in Syria and Iran would be MORE than welcome and made feel at home (as part of their family)...especially at this day and age.

thank god for the Polish community in TO. I lived ~6 yrs in Canada and I felt more Polish than Canadian eventhough I am Romanian heh (my group of friends were moslty Polish and so were my ex gfs )

don't get me wrong though, Canada is a great country and anyone who is Canadian raised should be proud. Also, I am very thankful to Canada because I am using the Canadian passport here in eu :D

agree with everything. the msn thing..lol its so true. and its usually the italian/portugese that do that. i dont see like norway, iraq, russia, etc or something like that.

When people ask me what I am, I always say Canadian. But they always want to know what decent you are, so then I say Polish. No one here is of Canadian decent. We or our ancestors all came from somewhere else so I don't see why people get mad if you say you're italian or polish or whatever. Canadian isn't a race.

And I agree with Cyrus on the best culture thing. That's totally a matter of perspective. One person may look for different things in a culture than another. It's all based on the criteria that you are looking for. European culture being the best? I can't say because I haven't seen most of Europe, but I haven't been to South America, Africa, or Asia yet and so until I visit those places and the experience their cultures, I can't say what culture is the best, but when I do, it will only be the best for me. But I'm already sure that North American culture isn't the best.

The people maybe are friendly...But I can only imagine what kind of a welcome reception a north american person gets these days in arab countries...let's not kid ourselves everyone's pissed at the US and if you don't look Arab you're already pretty much ed. And Lebanon is very different actually - they have a very different mentality and are much more neutral (history wise) that's why i didn't mention them in my post (at lest that's how i see it).

Israel has a med cultrues yes, but there's somewhat of a blend with European and American as well. They want to be associated with Europe more and play in many European sporting events. But overall yes there's a very mediterranian feeling there.
