Didn't go through the entire 8 pages of this thread but here goes some other suggestions that are more pop:

Erasure/Pet Shop Boys/Depeche Mode

They are bands for sure but heavily influenced my introduction to European dance music as well as those electronic sounds.

Future Sound of London.
Papua New Guinea alone should vault them into here.

U.N.K.L.E.
remix of Ian Brown - Fear is enough to bring chills to the spine without mentioning Reign or GDMFSOB.

Sander Kleinenberg
My Lexicon and Sacred are still stunning pieces of work.

Brothers in Rhythm (Seaman & Anderson)
ohh BiR.

Even Fatboy Slim for showing the commercial qualities of dance music and the importance of a hook that captures the imagination.

on a side note, who picks out the music for CSI? They are really forward with their use of electronic music on their show.

Shocking that Juan Atkins hasn't gotten more attention. The man invented techno for crying out loud.

Pink Floyd
I was just about to suggest them as well. I was just watching their "live at pompey" documentary earlier today and its funny because they mentioned being criticized for using electronic sounds and not using 100% live instruments, saying they weren't real musicians... Sounds a lot like the criticism EDM recieves nowadays.. I doubt electronic music would be anywhere near where it is now if it wasn't for their experimentation in electronic sounds.

I also recommend Sasha, not only for his amazing productions (xpander, airdrawndagger, etc..) but his consistently flawless mixing and creative mixed cds (GU13, involver)
twisted
Honorable Mention: Karlheinz Stockhausen, Steve Reich, Brian Eno, Tangerine Dream, Phillip Glass, and Klaus Schulze...
