On February 15, 2005, we announced a combined upload/download bandwidth limit of 61,440 Megabytes (60 Gigabytes) per month for all tiers of Rogers Yahoo! Hi-Speed Internet residential service. The limit will go into effect in your first billing cycle on or after March 17, 2005.

As you may appreciate, Rogers has a responsibility to ensure that all
of our customers experience a high quality of service and performance
when using Rogers Yahoo! Hi-Speed Internet. The 60 GB monthly limit
ensures that customers can continue to enjoy all the benefits of high-speed Internet service, without negatively impacting the experience of other Rogers' customers.

In past months, your usage levels have been above the 60 GB monthly
bandwidth limit and today we are writing to advise you of this. After the limit goes into effect in March, we will be asking you to ensure your usage does not exceed 60 GB per month.

To assist you in managing your bandwidth activity, we are providing a
usage measurement tool that you can access through the Rogers.com
website by visiting http://www.rogers.com/ums

This Usage Measurement tool will be available on February 15, 2005.
You will be prompted to enter a http://www.rogers.com user ID and
password. Please note, this may be a different user ID and password than the one used to access your Rogers Yahoo! portal. After signing in, select "View Internet Usage" from the customer service menu to access the
tool.

On the first offence they send u a letter, on the 2nd (within a year) they cut you off (but if you call and ask to be re-instated you will be) - and - on the 3rd - you're cut off from using Rogers internet for a year.

The internet was a wonderful place around 1997-1999. It's been all downhill since.

TA excluded. :p

wtf? that's so retarded...glad i'm with bell...sympatico used to have the restricitons as well but they back off from them when they realized it's not working out
AwakenedAddict
well that's 2GB/day so it's not horrible..... but just the idea of being limited sucks. I guess it probably will speed up the typical Rogers user's browsing/downloading experience.

Sympatico DSL > Rogers Cable ;)

i am not afraid of rogers!

I give it a month or so tops before Sympatico has an equivalent restriction back in place. If they don't adopt it voluntarily, they will be forced to by the migration of Rogers users over to Bell that will begin clogging their network.

60 gigs isn't that bad...

I guess the bit torrent effect has ravaged Rogers :D

i dunno, 2gigs/day isnt very much. I average about 100gigs download and 50upload a month! im glad im with sympatico.

BT did mess them up big time. Cogeco also was ravaged by BT, and my buddy(who lives in hamilton and had Cogeco) did a little research on the topic, this is what he wrote me:

quote:
I turns out, that cogeco is screwing us westdale[Hamilton] customers in Two
ways, a little dutch door action. First of all, they've oversold the
west hamilton area and haven't updated their equipment. this leads to
overloaded hubs and speeds at peak hours. But Secondly, hamilton
is now the testing ground for cogeco's copy of Packetshaper, an
advanced throttling program that examines individual packets for their
datatype, and swiftly dicards any bound for bittorent files if you've
gone over your limit.

Being connected to 2HP.ca Radio (@ 128kbps) 24 hours a day, for 30 days would consume: 316.406 Gbits or 39.551 Gbytes.
