[review] Felix da Housecat @ Avalon 2/19/05

Felix was quite an incredible surprise. I got to the avalon at about 1.30 and there was some hard chicago house playing so i didn't even know it was him until i saw him in the booth. i should have figured he would spin a set like he did, but alot of his mixes are so mellow it just really suprised me. needless to say he spun a great set in my opinion. he was all over the place genre wise throwing down mostly techno and chicago house but also some trance and of course some of his famous acid house shiiite. spun from 1-4 but i wish he would have stayed on longer and threw down some more of his chill stuff. he was also probably the most interactive dj ive ever experienced. i was chillin on the balcony next to the booth and he was like motioning for me to tell him when to drop the basslines and such it was cool. seemed like a really cool guy, like he was really enjoying himself too. he even turned down the music for this guy to ask him why he wasnt spinning records. that kinda bothered me cause he was still mixing more than alot of djs do, and i think cds are just like a new generation of records....i dont condone anyone from spinning them although records are more exciting.

the club itself sucked as usual....i bet most of the crowd did not even know who he was. lots of asians again, $10 drinks, and long lines for especially the $&*##! coat check. felix made it worth it though. enough that ill prob be there again in 2 weeks for bad boy bill AND derrick carter!!!!

highlights:

felix da housecat - watching cars go by
underworld - born slippy (great remix dont know name though)
spektrum - we all live and die
marilyn manson - the beautiful people (not remix!!)
franz ferdinand - this fire (remix)

ok, i have to disagree 90% felix has barely any dj skills, his mixes were like radio mixes- short and messy- and his tracklist, altho i liked most of the tracks he played, where ALL OVER the ing place. sure, there's something nice about the element of surprise but for christ's sake, don't mix out of a song 45 seconds into it! let me have a fricking moment to dance to your nice tunes, man.

no need to mention avalon. what a ing disaster zone.

felix himself is so cute- short and chubby and playful. little teddybear.

i agree that he was all over the place and you may be right about his mixes being short (I wasn't really dancing much that night b/c it was packed so I didn't notice it as much) but as far as his skills, I didn't hear him up at all. in my opinion, thats just how chicago house should be: upbeat, hard, and fast....bad boy bill does the same thing and his sets are sick....check out felix's cds though, he is a phenomenal producer in my opionion....excursions is unlike anything else ive ever heard

yeah, the use of cds is spreading like crazy among big DJS. Its kind of sad.

Any DJ hat plays Beautiful People in a set is cool in my book. Now if only more DJs would catch on to dropping a random rock track every now and then...

I don't like house but i love Chicago house and BBB of course together with a cutie Steve Smooth.
I think Felix da Housecat is spinning tonight at PM (50 Gansevoort street)

i know- the reason why i went to avalon in the first place is precisely because i love felix's production and i think he's a ing great producer-- the only i go to clubs is to see producers or djs that i like.. in this case, the producer i liked didn't turn out to be a dj i like lol.

fave track on excursions is definitely northern lite - treat me better :D:D:D:D:D

DL the music video if you can, it's the !! let's see if i can find a link for it....
