unusual performance from computer while using FL Studio 5

hey guys, this is my 1st post hehe!

can someone help me out, i have a problem with fl studio 5. firstly my pc is hyperthreading 3 gig cpu with over 700 mb RAM.

so im guessing i shouldnt have any trouble right?

the thing is, when im using fruity and i press the play button the sound starts to skip, just like wot happens if u didnt have enough cpu...

problem is the metre says not even 5 % of the cpu is being used!!! is that right??

i have the buffer on maximum and polling off and use hardware buffer enabled (ive tried everything)

but i still get the flickering in the sound and its quite bad. i have no idea wots going on....except that maybe it has something to do with gfx card maybe..? (my good one is off 4 repair and i have a crappy 1 atm)

anywayz, anyone know wots going on?

thanx,

which sound card you are using ?
have you checked that you choosed correctly the sound driver in the audio settings of FL5 ?
if yes try another slot on your mainboard for the soundcard.

i use SB Live! and it is selected...
i dont think this is the reason though cause it never used to do this...

also, other files work fine..they run smooth as silk, which leads me to think that maybe the softsynths im using are the cause...even though i only have 1 Triangle II and 3 synth1 instruments running...:conf: could it b all the FX im using or something?

Search of google for

Wuchels Asio4all

install then slect it as your soundcardriver thing in fl5 ;)

same problem for me (p4 3gigger ht, 1024 ram). asio makes it work. go with asio for sure.

omg, i installed that thing but it froze FL over completely and the only time it didnt, there was no sound at all...

i tried all the settings in its control panel and nothing...

oh and another thing...

recently, when this problem started something else began happening.

usually when fruity is playing i can switch between windows (like when talking on msn n stuff) and it would keep playing fine in the background.

now, when i do that, it stops completely and resumes only when im back in fruity again...

I found that synth1 can be quite cpu consuming. I'm only using a P3 800mHz, but I can pretty much only handle one with all the other samples and effects. Another thing, make sure you are running as few programs as possible, and if your using xp, use classic windows style buttons and start menu. if all else fails, Sometimes you just have to bounce to wave.
Project 7
Asio drivers ;)

Also check your audio cable doesnt run against any other pc cable or electrical cable. this can be the cause more likely :D

Simple fix for that one, in the audio preferences in fl just make sure that the "release driver blah-blah" is switched off. As for the other problem, well you hypothetically shouldn't have a problem if you're using asio drivers and your buffer settings should be pretty low. I think FLstudio 5 is much more demanding than the previous versions.
