for everyone saying that the Mazda's are Fords...you're right, but youre wrong.
Yes, Ford does own some (or all) of Mazda, but this benifits Fords more than Mazdas.
You see, the new fords that are coming out are based on the new Mazdas..not the other way around. Most Fords will have Mazda parts....
Like my Mazda 6 Wagon...it has a genuine Mazda engineered/built chassis, but a Ford Duratec engine...which has been "Mazda-fied".
Same with the Volvos...
And I believe the 4 cyl. in the 3 is Mazda engineered too.
So dont let the Ford part scare you. I hate Ford too ;) |
Yeah for sure that Ford benefits from the smaller companies it bought, like the 4 wheel drive from Volvo now in the Five Hundred. But don't forget that these companies had difficulties selling their products too... they needed Ford's cash or close. |

| ford owns a healthy chunk of most of their competitors as well. they own a bit of honda, gm, hyundai (although not even close to controling margins) they did this back in the late 80's to diversify. they only have controling shares on mazda, volvo, astonmartin, landrover, and jaguar. yes ford has borrowed alot of technologies from the brands they own, but you can see the ford end of things in these cars as well. ford subsidiary companies like visteon, who also do alot of design work for gm and chrysler, specialize in wire harness design and design of electrical connect ors. these have migrated in to fords higher end brands. the other benefit for these buyouts has been cross platform parts. ie alot of the basic car parts put on teh vehicles these days are the same as other vehicles in the ford fleet. so yes the mazda3 and the focus are very similar mechanically. they share alot of the same parts. however they arent as close as lets say the crown vicoria and the grandmarques and the late marauder, as they were all built on the same assembly line and in the same plant. ford is trying to get away from the noticable "sister vehicles" and move to a crossed platform design system that better differentiates between vehicle lines. so no more tempo/topaz, taurus/sable, crown vic/ grand marquis etc etc |

Link to source. I'm pretty sure they don't own any part of any of these competitors. |

All the above mentioned VWs are made in Mexico. Cutting cost unfortunatly cuts quality
And as an amendment to my previous post, it turns ut the Mazda 3 is indeed made in Japan. Go for it my brother |

My car is a 2003..(not a mazda protege) and i just reached 44k....then again I drive out of town all the time.
The key is to take care of your car...i go crazy with making sure I am on schedule for maintenance....2 weeks ago I spent over $300 on a type D service. That car is mine and I bought her brand spankin' new. I want her to last a long time...cars are very expensive!
Besides..she's my baby. ;) |
