Awwe man, I wanted to make the first fag reference.
Nah seriously, no smoking in clubs has it's ups and downs. For one, your clothes don't reek of smoke when you go home the next day, but the downside is that all that smoke smell covers up a lot of that nasty BO and e-farts you'd never smell otherwise. |

| i smoke and im all for the smoking bans, mainly because im not allowed to smoke in the club when im working. the club industry will lose alot of patronage, people will start drinking at home and ill get paid to stand and stare |

Do you honestly think clubs (not bars with separate meals areas or TAB/pathetic pokie venues, i mean nightclubs with loud music clubs) will follow suit? Club owners would know how detrimental this would be to their bar sales and will more than likely turn a blind eye unless some little weasel dobbed em in.
Take Metro for example...can you honestly say out of 2000 people, 1800 will stop smoking? I agree that smoking is bad and what not, but i am a smoker too and i can safely say that the club industry revolves around the social aspect of lighting up a cigarette, having a drink and a dance...like its been said before, if you dont like your clothes smelling like crap the following day, either dont go out at all or when you get home air your clothes you whinging pricks!
And for the record, those people who choose to work in environments surrounded my smokers; i hate to generalise here but ive worked in a load of clubs and everyone ive met smoked...those who didnt knew the working conditions and just got on with the job...dont like it? work elsewhere...simple. |

| Pete.. I thought they were passing a law that said you cannot smoke in clubs/bars/etc. past a certain date? If it's a law.. how do certain clubs choose to disregard it? |

Haha, laws....there are laws against people who jay walk; there are laws against drivers who speed and run red lights...DRUGS are illegal ffs! Yet, people still 'break the law'...sure, it may be easier to police clubs who disobey the anti smoking laws, but i'll reiterate, do you think club owners will adhere to the laws, or go about their business? Perhaps my perception of clubs differ from yours...for instance, Cage Nightclub...there is no chance in hell they will ever enforce something like this *and now that ive name dropped it the online police army will hunt it down :P*...lets just say all rave based clubs and the clubs that encourage copious amounts of alcohol consumption *Goo, Twister so on and so forth*...
Like the drug testing, this too is pretty sketchy and lame. |

i think its bollocks. im all for an owner to decide to make their establishment smoke-free, and good luck to them. but i dont see it as a govt\'s responsibility to legislate that kind of activity. im happy for there to be standards of ventilation etc, but ultimately its a persons choice to enter or not to enter a smoking environment. i feel for the staff of clubs & pubs, but ultimately they knew what environment they were applying to work in.
govt\'s stick their noses in all the wrong places. |

| I would have thought the penalties would be severe, so bad that it would force owners with no choice but to encourage the law. |

Well thats what they said about people going against the water restrictions but they never laid any charges and there were countless of residents who went against the bans...look at the percentages again Dave...with well over 80% of club patrons smoking and most staff members and management doing the same (or more, ie drugs) this wont be welcomed with open arms...but hey, no one is saying its impossible and im sure enforement will occur, but not without some form of resistance.
Drugs are illegal yet there are clubs out there whose management and patrons consume them *and drugs dont just exist in rave type clubs either...they're everywhere!*..*this time i wont name names :P*...if the authorities cant police anti drug laws in clubs how the hell will they police smoking bans? |

| If you go somewhere and dance and sweat all night or wear clothes for 8-10 hours and don't wash them regardless of smoke or not then that's disgusting! |
