do you need a music background to become a dj or is it somthing you can experiment with and practice to get good at...and i knwo this has probably been asked a million times but whats a basic free pc program i can use to start out with to see if i get into it

i got big pants
in order to be a dj, you MUST, i mean MUST have music experience for at least 10 years. if not, your wasting your time. you need to know the exact bpm with every song within a couple of seconds, and know what key the song is in. so if you havent any sort of experience, dont do it. your just wasting your time and money.

just mess around and i would suggest starting off with some tables a decent mixer and a few vinyls and some headphones much better than anythign you'll ever do on your computer.

Just get a free mixing program and mix some mp3s, or crack one!

just press the auto bpm button at first and work on other things like fading and stuff

Soon after you will get better and better
