Is anyone else out there tired of being pushed?

I am. I left a job because I was fed up with doing the job of 2 or 3 people and getting up on a weekday just made me feel ill. Now at the new job, I feel like I am doing the job of 6. Budget cuts, less staff, no support, tighter deadlines... Everyone at work is nearing their breaking point and I just wonder if there going to come a time when we are allowed to breathe again? For the most part, I like the work I do but I am tired of more responsiblity just simply meaning more work. I dream of a work day where I am allowed to stop for a drink, lunch or to pee. I am a pretty motivated worker but the constant pushing to do more faster no matter how hard you work is getting ridiculous.
I was watching 'How it was Made' the other night on TV and there was a women working on an assembly line whose job was to separate peanuts that had stuck together after being candy coated. Smashing nuts all day with no one breathing down my neck sounds pretty nice right now. |

When you work a useless dead end job, your bored and depressed. When you work a high paying job, your stressed and even more depressed.
No matter what, we're all gonna be unhappy.

whoa. and when you spoke of this job before, you said the offer they gave you was enough to make it worth the change. I feel for your pain.
At Starbucks, I'm one of the few shift supervisors since our recent bunch of new hires and I feel the weight of several extraneous responsibilities and I still don't get paid enoughto care as much as I do. The job's fun-factor doesn't outweigh the stresses either.
I guess the only advice I can give is to find the best parts of your job and stick to them. If there's a team under you.... delegate! |

That is the problem...there is supposed to be a team under me but they have not hired them yet and it seems that they might be cutting out bodies in my team due to budget cuts. The only person I can delegate to right now is me...after hours. The glass of wine I have in hand now will definitely help me right all the creative briefs I have to tackle tonight........weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
then off to bed to dream of smashing nuts :D |

I can't believe I'm hearing this. You were SOOO excited about your new opportunity, but now it seems like you've been hired by AA's mean older brother.
I'm really soory to hear about this. I hope things change quickly, and for the better. :)
As for the job of smashing nuts - where do I apply? :toothless

| I totally understand your pain Heidi. I'm in the same boat right now. We're horribly understaffed here too, and the few staff left here are too incompotent to pull their share. Hope your days get better, i'm rooting for yah. |

Crazy does not equate to insanity.
Crazy is when someone is trapped in a cycle they hate but do nothing about it.
We in Western Culture are trained to follow in a consistent, known, and safe schedule to keep a stable and producing country. But always remember to never fear the unknown, as opportunities are endless such as following your passion, creating a business, etc. |

uh oh, I never thought I'd ever hear it from another designer :p
I figure that's why I took up design, that's what I've always done before so it's really a matter of finding your placement in that part of life. Of course work will be stressful at times, but that wouldn't make me unhappy, it's all part of the challenge. |
