That's why I listen to very little hiphop and what I do listen to is mainly stuff that isn't played on the radio. G-unit was good when it was all underground but not g-unit stands less for guerilla and more for something a little more laughable.
I'd much rather listen to hiphop with more meaning in the lyrics, or at least better beats or better lyrics ie. Big L, Gangstarr, K-OS Nas, Jay Z, etc. |
Pick up Masta Ace's "A Long Hot Summer." Best album of 2004 imo. Pure art. |

wow what an incredibly ignorant statement.
the production level of hip-hop beats these days, is through the roof! thats where all the effort goes these days, the lyrics suck, but the beats are absolutly amazing. very well produced.
hip-hop producers could give EDM producers a run for their money, remember a hip hop track is shorter, and less involved, but they also have to produce way more tracks.
aslo if a hiphop beat was as involved, or full as a trance tune, it wouldnt sound right with a MC overtop.
educate yourself, and then talk about music. |
Ignorant statement? bull.
i too used to be as naive about it all as you but i think ull find im far more educated than you.
i was never arguing that the likes of dre, kanye west, scott storch, timberland, etc are not very good producers. but ever since producing myself then i can safely say that the majority of hip hop is still very poorly produced.
And i never said that a trance beat would sound good on a hip hop track. i was merely saying that genres such as trance, breaks, techno, etc on the whole have a far better mastered and engineered beat to them. I was really mainly referring to breaks and the fact that they both have a similar style of backing track.
but if you're happy to listen to a poorly masterered kick and clap, a very simple sine bass with the odd bit of percussion thrown in and think thats well produced then more the fool you. |

You're on crack man. That track is as wack as it gets. The whole sampling of the Batman theme is cheesy as hell. In no way is it innovative. Listen to Eminem's words, its so stupid. The hook is even worse with the high pitched vocals and that high synth. No disrespect, but you really don't know anything about hip-hop if you believe that track is worth anything. |

yea i agree on that for the most part....
most producers do a good job with using horrible samples that dont sound to clear.
but there are definately a few tracks that have some amazing mastering, to bad i got rid of them all. |

ok when you put it like that, it makes a lot more sense. I thought you were saying that the production value hasnt gone up at all, which i still believe it has. It may not be the cream of the crop...but it has still improved a lot.
The big producers are able to put out quality, because they have the equipment, $$$, and staff to do so...another problem with the production of hip hop, is the amount of people involved who have no idea how to read/write music. Even 50 said in an interview, that when Em found him, he had no idea what bar was, or even a simple musical structure.
and you are obviously educated about music, my bad, :D |

I think that his flow and delivery are average, but his word play and story telling are excellent. Revolutionary Vol. 2 is a pure example of this. I love "You Never Know" and "Harlem Streets" off of it. "Freedom of Speech" is good as well.
On Revolutionary Vol. 1 I love "Dance With The Devil" and "Poverty of Philosophy." |

havnt heard the album but if disco inferno, candy shop, and piggy bank are any representation then its crap.
I personally like The Game and thought his album was a good effort. Not the best lyricist but he pours his heart out and says exactly how it is and how he feels, i respect that. plus its nice to hear from the west side again.
Fat Joe is cool in a club but thats it. He deserved to get called out.
Jada is the best lyricist of all time. You just cant argue with me on this. He has been slippin since he got popular but his brilliance still shines through on most everything he touches. Thought that Jada and aftermath had a thing goin. guess not.
For some reason i like Shyne. He takes twisting other peoples' lyrics to the extreme but it works for him.
I thought it was pretty funny what 50 said about nas on piggy bank. Nas is hit or miss but mostly overatted. (better than pac though, gasp!) But he did kill Hov so i look forward to here what he can do to 50.
and thats enough hip hop on a trance board. |

| Immortal Technique has some powerful songs, I was just refering to his basic delivery. Non Phixion are better in my opinion but not their last album :( |
