Trance is not dead its just evolving. Don't live in the past.

Excellent analogy. The music evolves with time. Who knows where it will be 10 years?
Just relax and go with the flow. |

| hmmmmmmm is trance dead...............NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Look at hard house, it is dying imo. Total fad. Trance is here to stay. Anyone who says trance is dead is a stupid mother******. People said it was dead in 2000. Look at it now. Look at the top 100 dj poll. PVD is #4, tiesto is #6, mauro picotto and soooooooooo many others. Trance is here. Look at hard house, top dj is #16, no one cares. Trance is still growing. Can't wait |

i think trance will be around for awhile, but not necessarily as the same iteration as before. all music changes no matter what type it is - the same is true here too. 98/99 was a great period, but i refuse to believe that it was so much better than now, or even pre 1998. if you search, you can find stuff just as good, if not better than the older stuff. nostalgias a bitch, but i dont go around listening to Pearl Jam just cause they were really good grunge. as music evolves, you must learn to like other stuff too, even if it isnt necessarily what you previously liked.

there is nothing here that proves anything. did it ever occur to you:
1)that your opinion is not fact?
2)people that think uplifting trance is taking a backseat(and evolving into) to progressive house, are just as, or more intelligent than you?
3)the top 100 Djs poll is basically a top 100 trance djs poll and nothing else? i bet a hard house dj poll would give you different numbers...
4)hard house isnt a fad? (its been around just as long as trance prolly, and maybe longer?)
5)#16 must mean A LOT of people care? (to beat out all the other trance djs that could have had her spot?)
listen, im not trying to bash or flame, im just saying that you shouldnt be calling people stupid because they dont have the same opinions as you, THATS stupid. people dont like the same music, i for one, dislike just about ALL hard house, but that doesnt mean its DYING, or going anywhere for that matter. to perfectly judge how well trance is doing, you have to look at the WHOLE music industry, not just hard house, that doesnt even make sense in comparison. its like comparing rap to r&b to see if one is dying. what does that tell you?
again, i think that trance is still growing in North America, especially the US. i know it will be big someday, even if it barely resembles the 1998/99 period. if the message is still true, i will prolly still like it. i honestly cant say that this will happen tho. oh and people who bash hard house for sirens and air horns are often the people that only believe that trance should be uplifting(synths anyone?). trance is becoming closer to art now, not just ATB(etc.) playing four notes on a programmable keyboard, and THATS why it will last, even if it displeases those who cant understand that. late/ |

| personally, i think it just evolved into a different sound, it's still there, its just not the epic trance i was listening to 3 yrs ago. you know gouryella, system f, etc... it'll come back though :) but, i think right know progressive is the thing... a melding of house, trance, breaks, etc.:D |

The trance of 1998/99 is gone, let's just accept it and move on with our lives. Times are different: that particular kind of trance had its time, but it's dead, let's move on. 1998-99 was a great time, but we can't replicate it by clinging our trance nation 1 cd's to our chests and hoping that we can revive a horse that's been flogged to bloody death already.
Maybe those in the US are a bit different, since you've been sheltered from the whole electronic music scene for a while, but I for one am hoping that the 1998-99 "epic, uplifiting, melodic" type trance dies gracefully, instead of having lame wannabe's producing unimaginative trance-by-numbers crap.
Trance needs to evolve and it is. There's no point in denying it. We'll always have the memories of that great trance era, but it's time to move on. There's a lot of exciting new stuff happenning in the electronic music scene and so much to experience. I still enjoy listening to trance, but nothing particularly inspiring or original has been released in the past - say - 18 months. The classic tunes are still classic, but we can't go on forever creating songs from that era. It's 2001 and we've all progressed a bit since then. :)
Viva le revolution! |
Couldn't have said it better myself. Trance is moving ahead, the days of '1998' and 'For an Angel' are gone ppl...that's why DJ's will only spin these tracks for encores and classic nites. Look at what most trance Dj's are spinning and you'll realize that progressive and fusion (tech-trance, house-trance) is the future of trance (at least for the time being). I loved the epic stuff too, but i'm glad that it's over...it was getting a bit too fluffy for my tastes. It's time trance went back to it's roots and become more harder and darker.
Long live Trance...Love live the progressive era :) |

Any type of music that's been around for as long as Trance has(at least 9 years) will not just die away. I think a lot of people are confusing what was big in the 98-99 period, which was one sub genre of Trance, namely Dutch trance, with the whole genre.
The dance scene will always require quality melodic electronic music which is what Trance is. |

Too true. Commercial trance has become stagnant because the scene is dominated by the same artists as '99 with very little fresh talent bursting through.
Although I will always love that sort of trance, I am turning more and more towards progressive trance. There can be so much energy and it can be so uplifting. Also it is more unpredictable than the trance of 99. It's refreshing to go through a set and only recognize two or three tracks instead of already knowing every song played inside out. |

this is exactly what im talking about. everyone who says uplifting is dead, are usually the ones who 'hate' progressive. if you 'hate' a certain type of music in my book, that just means you didnt look hard enough for something to like. uplifting trance can be almost mindless sometimes, which can be awesome. but you can get so much satisfaction, and just as much of the 'uplifting' feeling in prog if you take the time to find something you can get into and understand what is going on. maybe i like MY music a little too much, but those are my feelings. with prog you need to listen to more than 2 mins of a song, which scares haters off i think...but its their loss...late/
hell naw it aint boring! what are you THINKING! hehe |

I disagree completely.
Only this week alone, I discovered (and bought) 3 fresh brand-new epic trance tunes that you could call 'commercial' but that actually are very original and quality, and have great dance melodies. This week alone.
I started a thread on this, called "Excellent New Tracks (2001) in the Epic/Uplifting Category." Scroll down the pages to find it.
I pay close attention to what's going on in that area (which you call 'commercial' and I call 'excellent anthems' ) and I can tell you it's NOT stagnant. It's certainly much more alive than it was, say, 8 months ago, when there was nothing to listen to. That's why I believe epic/uplifting is coming back.
If anyone's interested I can name you some new tunes.
P.S.: I also want to tell you that you're wrong when you say "the scene is dominated by the same artists as in '99 with little talent bursting through". First of all many artists who were well-known in '99 started moving away from uplifting toward prog. Look at Signum, Transa, and Tiesto, for example. Secondly, there are great new anthems from new artists. Listen to NuNRG-Dreamland or D Mention - Daydream, for example. These are top-quality anthems that could just as well have been written in '98-99. But they were written this year. |
