The McLaren F1 is no longer the fastest production car, officially.

"I'm pleased to say that we have approved your record claim and the Koenigsegg CCR is therefore officially the world’s fastest production car" says Hein le Roux, Adjudicator and Researcher for Guinness World Records.

That's right - the McLaren F1 has been overtaken as the world's fastest production car. The CCR spanked it around the Nardo Prototipo circuit on the 28th, doing the 1 km average speed faster than the F1 by over 15 km/h. The official top speed record of the F1 was done at the VW Ehra track which has a 9 km long straight, where the F1 reached top speed of 386.7 km/h.

The CCR still beat the F1, despite the heavily banked circuit, averaging 387.87 km/h.

Next step for the CCR is to do the record at Ehra, where they figure it'll do 395 km/h.

Sweden's first supercar is indeed the fastest, and it didn't need a 6.0L V12 BMW engine. It did it with a meagre Mustang-based engine (albeit tuned to over 800 hp).

This isnt much of a suprise...but the question is, is it the same car thats on the road?

Many cars which test for the top speed record are modified, (dont comply with noise regs, emission regs, etc...)

so is the car used in the test, the same as the one you can buy out of the 'show room'?

It is the same car. There's the CCS-V8 (lower-end model, ~650hp), and the CCR which is the big brother.

cool, so it is a the same spec car. magazines and car manufacturers often overstate their performance figures, its very annoying.:whip:

give me a BMW engine any day! and the fact that the mclf1 did it will less horsepower, and over 10 years ago, thats the most remarkable thing
